Description

The Leckey Freestander is Leckey's upright pediatric stander for children and teens who need chest, hip, knee, and foot support in a standing frame. Westin Healthcare quotes it after a clinical assessment, then delivers and sets it up for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Sunrise Medical Canada prints three sizes from about 1.5-5 years through 9-18 years, user heights 31.5-72.8 in, capacities 132-198 lb. It is upright only. The child's occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the pelvic belt and the supports. We do not give clinical advice.

Who this stander is for

This stander is for a child whose therapy team wants upright standing, not prone or supine tilt. Families usually call us when a therapist has named Freestander, or when they are choosing between Freestander, Totstander, Pronestander, and the R82 Caribou.

  • Children and teens who need a de-rotation pelvic belt and adjustable trunk, hip, knee, and foot supports
  • Classrooms and homes that want wipe-down fabric and a tray with grab-pegs or grab-rails
  • Transfers from a wheelchair onto a low-profile footplate

If the therapist wants a simple 1-5 year evaluation stander, start with the Totstander. If the program is prone-only, use the Pronestander.

How the Freestander stands

The pelvic belt is the starting point for hip alignment over the base. Chest width is 6-10 / 8-12 / 10-14 in. Chest height (footplate to armpit) is 20.7-33.5 / 26.8-43.3 / 38.4-56.1 in. Trays are 16 x 21, 18 x 23, and 20 x 25 in. A caregiver stays with the child in the frame.

Leckey Freestander specifications

These figures are from Sunrise Medical Canada's current Freestander card. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Size 1: 1.5-5 years, 31.5-45.3 in, 132 lb (60 kg). Size 2: 4-10 years, 43.3-57 in, 176 lb (80 kg). Size 3: 9-18 years, 55.1-72.8 in, 198 lb (90 kg). Leckey manuals print a three year warranty on manufactured products and components. Sunrise Canada notes provincial and funding variation.

Upright, prone, or 3-in-1

Stay with Freestander when the program is upright standing. Use Pronestander for five prone angles. Use Squiggles, Mygo, Horizon, or Caribou when the child needs more than one standing position.

Funding help for a pediatric stander in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) lists pediatric walkers, standers, and strollers as funded mobility aids. ADP can fund 75% of the cost of a pediatric stander when it is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full client share. Not every product or situation qualifies, so talk to us and the child's therapy team before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), Easter Seals Ontario, and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this stander across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble the quoted size, and show you the pelvic belt, tray, and footplate before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a stander first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Purchased standers are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Pediatric standers are oversized configured equipment. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the stander is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does ADP cover a pediatric stander in Ontario?

Ontario lists pediatric walkers, standers, and strollers among mobility aids. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses the child. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will talk through the funding route before anyone orders a Freestander.

What sizes does the Leckey Freestander come in?

Three sizes. Size 1 is about 1.5-5 years and 31.5-45.3 inches. Size 2 is about 4-10 years and 43.3-57 inches. Size 3 is about 9-18 years and 55.1-72.8 inches. The therapist's measurements pick the size.

Is the Freestander a prone stander?

No. The Leckey Freestander is an upright standing system. For prone angles, look at the Pronestander or a 3-in-1 frame such as Squiggles, Mygo, Horizon, or the Caribou.

What is the weight capacity of the Freestander?

Size 1 is 132 lb (60 kg). Size 2 is 176 lb (80 kg). Size 3 is 198 lb (90 kg). Stay inside the figure for the quoted size.

Can a child transfer from a wheelchair onto the Freestander?

Sunrise Canada prints a low-profile footplate for transfers from a wheelchair or another seat. We will confirm the transfer plan with the therapist on the quote.

How is Freestander different from Totstander?

Totstander is a simple 1-5 year upright frame that Leckey also describes as an evaluation tool. Freestander is the fuller upright system in three sizes, with a de-rotation pelvic belt and a larger accessory list.

What is included with the Leckey Freestander?

You get the quoted size, supports, and accessories the therapist specified. There is no single stock package. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets up across Brampton and the GTA.

What is the warranty on the Leckey Freestander?

Leckey prints three years on manufactured products and components. Sunrise Canada notes provincial and funding variation. Westin Healthcare processes the claim through our service and repairs page.
