Description
The Drive Pediatric Viper is Drive Medical's L412DDA-ELR, a 12 inch by 12 inch folding wheelchair with a carbon-steel frame. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Drive's current shop name is Viper Jr. The 2026 Drive Canada catalog calls it Pediatric Viper. Both names are the same 12 inch chair.
Drive lists a 30 lb chair, a 250 lb weight capacity, and 8 inch front casters. Rear wheels are composite Mag-style with aluminum hand rims so the person can self-propel. Flip-back desk arms, flip-up anti-tippers, and swing-away or elevating riggings come on the chair. It is not an adult 16 to 22 inch Viper, and it is not a transport chair.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a smaller or younger person who fits a 12 inch by 12 inch seat, is within Drive's 250 lb rating, and can push themselves or has someone to help. Families usually call us when an 16 inch adult seat is too wide, or when they need a lower seat-to-floor range than Drive's adult aluminum chairs.
If the person needs 16, 18, 20, or 22 inch and a 300 or 350 lb rating, start with the Drive Viper Plus GT. If 16, 18, or 20 inch with a simpler desk arm is enough, see the Drive Cruiser X4. Drive also lists a 14 inch sibling as L414DDA. Ask us before you order if 12 inches is tight.
- Self-propel use on a 12 inch pediatric seat
- A Drive 250 lb rating on a 30 lb carbon-steel frame
- Hemi-range seat-to-floor heights from 15.5 to 17.5 inches
Design and build
The frame is carbon steel with a black powder coat, double coated. Drive's frame style leaves off seat-rail guides. Upholstery is flame-retardant nylon. Arms are nylon-padded, flip back, and lock into a steel-lined receiver. The release lever at the front can sit up or down.
Rear wheels are composite Mag-style with aluminum hand rims and polyurethane tires. Front casters are 8 inch, with three height settings. Dual axles change seat-to-floor height. Anti-tippers have flip-up wheels and stay on the chair. Wheel locks are push-to-lock. Footrests swing away or elevate, with tool-free length and composite plates with heel loops.
The chair folds. Drive lists 36 inches long with riggings, 12 inches wide, and 32 inches high folded. Open width on the 12 inch chair is 20 inches. The owner manual linked on Drive's card says the chair is not approved as a seat in a motor vehicle.
Drive Pediatric Viper L412DDA specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU L412DDA-ELR, the 12 inch chair with elevating leg rests. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current Jr sheet lists a 12 inch by 12 inch seat, a 30 lb chair, a 31 lb 14 inch sibling, a 250 lb capacity, 15.5 to 17.5 inch seat to floor, a 16 to 18 inch back, a 39 lb or less carton, and Limited Lifetime warranty.
Do not mix these numbers with the Viper Plus GT. That chair is aluminum, 16 to 22 inch, 34.5 lb on Drive's current sheet, and 300 or 350 lb. Do not mix them with leftover adult Viper L416/L418/L420 language. Those adult codes are not on Drive's current shop cards or the 2026 Canada catalog.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Drive's Lifetime Limited term: defects in materials and workmanship for the life of that purchaser. It does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to rubber accessories, casters, and grips. Drive's shop still links an older Viper hangtag that shows item L416DDA and prints 300 lb. For this SKU we use the Jr spec sheet: 250 lb.
Size and legrest options
Drive's current L412DDA-ELR chair is 12 inches wide and 12 inches deep with elevating leg rests. Drive also lists L412DDA-SF (12 inch, swing-away) and L414DDA in 14 inch.
Use Legrest to set swing-away footrests or elevating leg rests. That is the -SF or -ELR ending on the Drive code. The default SKU here is L412DDA-ELR.
Funding help for a manual wheelchair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a manual wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Drive manufacturer warranty
Drive's current Jr spec sheet and the linked Viper hangtag both print a Lifetime Limited Warranty for the original purchaser: free of defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of that purchaser. The warranty does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to non-durable parts such as rubber accessories, casters, and grips. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between this wheelchair and a transport chair?
A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels so the person can push themselves. A transport chair has small rear wheels and is built for a caregiver to push. L412DDA-ELR is a self-propel pediatric wheelchair with Mag wheels, not a transport chair.
Who pushes the Pediatric Viper?
The person in the chair, using the aluminum hand rims. A companion can also push from the back. Engage both wheel locks before sitting or standing.
Will it fold into a car trunk?
Drive lists 12 inches wide folded and 32 inches high. We can show you the fold at delivery. It is not approved as a seat inside a moving vehicle.
Is L412DDA the same chair as the Viper Plus GT?
No. L412DDA-ELR is Drive's 12 inch pediatric / Jr. chair, 30 lb, 250 lb. The Viper Plus GT is aluminum, 16 to 22 inch, 34.5 lb on Drive's current sheet, and 300 or 350 lb. They are separate Drive families.
What seat width do I need?
This SKU is 12 inches by 12 inches. Measure the seated hip width. If 12 inches is tight, ask us about Drive's 14 inch L414DDA. If the person needs 16 inch or wider, use the Viper Plus GT or the Cruiser X4.
What is the weight capacity?
Drive's current Jr sheet lists 250 lbs for L412DDA and L414DDA. Stay at or under that rating. Do not use the 300 lb figure from the older adult Viper hangtag on this SKU.
Why 8 inch front casters?
Eight inch casters turn in small rooms and have three height settings, which is how Drive reaches the 15.5 to 17.5 inch seat-to-floor range. Large Mag rear wheels are still how the person self-propels.
What is the warranty?
Drive prints a Lifetime Limited term for the original purchaser. Wear items such as casters and grips are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
Can funding help with this chair in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with mobility equipment. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Can I rent a manual wheelchair before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents some mobility equipment. Ask us whether a manual wheelchair can go out as a rental for your dates. Purchased chairs are delivered on a scheduled date.
