This mattress is for a person who needs a hybrid surface that can start unpowered and add alternating pressure later. Joerns' clinical indications, which are guidelines for a clinician, are: in non-powered mode, prevention and treatment of Stage 1 and 2 pressure injuries, and treatment of uncomplicated Stage 3 and 4 injuries in patients with multiple turning surfaces, provided staff can position the person off the wound in at least two positions. In powered alternating mode, Joerns adds cyclic offloading for advanced treatment of uncomplicated Stage 3 or 4 pressure injuries where that therapy may help. The clinician who knows the person's skin still decides.
If you want a full-time powered air replacement with no foam core, look at the Domus 4 or the Med Aire Plus. If you want a Joerns bed under this surface, start with the Joerns Care 100.

Construction and how it works
This is a mattress replacement, not an overlay. A four-zone inner air core (head, shoulder, torso, foot) uses P.R.O. valves so the cells set themselves. The head zone is static high-density foam. A 1-inch viscoelastic topper sits on top. A firm perimeter fills the gap to the side rails. Optional raised sidewalls are the Sidewall picker on this page. The cover is zippered, fluid-proof, low-friction, and low-shear. Nylon or 2-way stretch is what Joerns ships on a given kit.
Leave the pump off and the surface stays a reactive hybrid. Snap on a Joerns control unit and you get Autofirm, alternating, and static powered therapy. The current Joerns pump is the P.R.O. Technology control unit. The older ES2 pump is retired.

Joerns warrants the P.R.O. Matt Plus mattress for 5 years and the cover for 1 year for the original purchaser under normal use. Control units are 1 year. We handle the warranty claim with you.

Does this mattress need a pump?
No. It works as a non-powered hybrid. Add a Joerns control unit only if the clinician wants alternating pressure or powered static therapy.
Is this an overlay or a replacement?
A 7-inch replacement. The existing mattress comes off.
How do I clean the cover?
The cover is zippered, fluid-proof, and stain-resistant. Follow the Joerns user manual for wipe-down. Do not soak the air core or the foam head section.
What is the weight rating?
Joerns lists a 500 lb safe working load for the mattress. The bed frame may be lower. Use the lower of the two numbers.
What size bed does it fit?

How loud is the pump?
There is no pump on the mattress alone. If you add a control unit, Joerns does not print a decibel rating on the current spec sheet. The pump hangs on the footboard.
What is the warranty?

Can I rent a hybrid mattress before I buy?

What happens if the power goes out?
The mattress does not need power in P.R.O. mode. If a control unit is running and the power fails, the surface returns to its non-powered air-core state. It does not go flat like an open-cell air mattress.
