The Invacare Matrx E2 Back is Invacare and Motion Concepts' newer Elite-series wheelchair back support with Ripple Foam, EasySet hardware, and a 300 lb (136 kg) rating. Westin Healthcare sells the 18 in and 20 in high standard-contour sizes and fits them for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is the E2S 3 in contour. It is not the 6 in E2 Deep and it is not the older PBE Elite.

The sizes we sell here are factory E2S1418, E2S1420, E2S1618, E2S1620, E2S1818, E2S1820, E2S2018, and E2S2020: widths 14, 16, 18, and 20 in (36-51 cm) and heights 18 and 20 in (46-51 cm). Use Back Width and Back Height to pick those. Shorter 6-16 in E2 heights are a different Westin page.

Who this back support is for

This wheelchair back support is for a person who stays at or under 300 lb and wants the newer Matrx Elite series: Ripple Foam, a notched sacral cutout, and EasySet pins that still adjust with the person seated. It suits a standard 3 in contour, not a 6 in deep wrap.

Fit, contour, and hardware

The Invacare Matrx E2 sold here is the 3 in standard contour. EasySet (standard on 18 in and 20 in highs) fits a chair 1 in narrower or 2 in wider than the back. Hardware fits 3/4 in, 7/8 in, and 1 in canes. Angle is a 40 degree range. Depth is 2 in in front of or behind the canes. Rotation can be set with the person seated.

A 14 in E2S sits on chairs 13-16 in wide. A 16 in sits on 15-18 in. An 18 in sits on 17-20 in. A 20 in sits on 19-22 in. Headrest interface is included on 14 in and higher, so every 18 in and 20 in size includes it.

Foam, cover, and care

Motion Concepts Ripple Foam uses airflow channels for temperature and humidity, a rippled top for immersion, and a solid HR backing. Extra immersion sits in the spinal relief area. The Meshtex cover is moisture-resistant and breathable and overlaps the shell. Optional Matrx Protect is a Startex slipcover with welded seams on 16, 18, and 20 in widths by 16, 18, and 20 in heights.

Follow the Elite-family care line unless the E2 manual on the order says otherwise: wipe light soil, rinse, and dry. Remove the foam before any machine wash of the cover.

E2, Elite, or E2 Deep

E2 is the newer Elite series with Ripple Foam. The Matrx Elite is the older 3 in PBE. The E2 Deep 16 x 18 is the 6 in contour in one size. The Matrx MAC Hug is the adjustable-contour back for mild asymmetry.

Foam back support, gel cushions, and air cushions

The Invacare Matrx E2 Back is a foam wheelchair back support. A gel or air seat cushion is a different product. See the JAY Ion or the ROHO High Profile when the seating therapist is choosing the seat. The E2 does not replace a pressure-management seat cushion.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario

This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost.
