Description
The Handicare Freecurve is a custom curved stairlift on a single-tube rail. Westin Healthcare photographs the stairs in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, then Savaria bends the rail to those photos. The Handicare brand is sold in Canada by Savaria. This is the chair for a turn, a spiral, or a landing. It is not a straight 1100 or 1000.
Savaria rates the Freecurve at 275 lb (125 kg). Folded, the chair sits about 16.5 to 17.5 in (42 to 44 cm) from the wall, depending on the seat. The rail can climb from a flat run up to 61 degrees. Speed is 21 ft/min (0.11 m/s) on the straight and 12 ft/min (0.06 m/s) through a curve.
Who this stairlift is for
This stairlift is for a household whose stairs change direction. Families usually call us when there is a 90- or 180-degree turn, a pie-shaped stair, a spiral, or a mid-flight landing. The Freecurve also parks around a newel post so the chair sits off the walking line at the top or bottom.
If the flight is one straight run, start with the Handicare 1100 or the Handicare 1000. A person who stays in a wheelchair needs a vertical platform lift. Another curved option on our site is the Access Flow X page.
- Curved, spiral, or split stairs that a straight rail cannot follow
- A user at or under 275 lb (125 kg)
- A custom rail colour and a choice of Alliance, Elegance, Classic, or Petite seats
Custom rail and power options
A dealer measures the stairs with Savaria's PS4D photo system. You see the rail and seat on your own stairs before the factory cuts tube. The rail is a single cream tube as standard, or grey or brown. Parking bends and top or bottom overruns are part of that drawing.
The seat, footrest, and arms fold. A locking swivel sits at the top landing. Options include a 2-way powered pivot swivel for tight or spiral stairs, an 80-degree power swivel, a power footrest with LED light, a power hinge at a bottom door, a 5-point harness, and keyless operation. The Active seat raises and lowers like a lift chair on Alliance or Elegance only. Savaria does not offer the Active seat in Quebec.
Handicare Freecurve specifications

Track type on the quote
Use Track Type to describe the turn: 90-degree flat or spiral, 90-degree large radius, 180-degree flat or spiral, 180-degree large radius, straight with a top or bottom overrun, or straight with an intermediate landing. Those labels are rail geometries, not boxed lengths. Call (905) 451-7743 for a free photo measure and a written quote.
Straight or curved
A straight stairlift is faster to install and fits one straight flight. See the Handicare 1100 and the Handicare 1000. A curved stairlift is custom-bent. The Freecurve is Savaria's single-tube curved chair. A twin-rail curved chair (Handicare 4000 or Stairfriend 23) is a different Savaria family; ask us if the photos point that way.
Funding help for a stairlift or home accessibility in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund stairlifts, platform lifts, or home modifications, so plan around other routes. The March of Dimes Canada Home and Vehicle Modification Program is the main Ontario funding source for home accessibility changes like stairlifts and platform lifts, and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), the Ontario Renovates program in some municipalities, extended health plans, and community organizations can also help. The Home Accessibility Tax Credit may apply to qualifying renovations on a Canadian tax return. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team photographs the stairs, delivers the custom Freecurve, and installs it across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We show you the joystick, remotes, and swivel before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather sit in a seat first. For a scheduled measure, call (905) 451-7743. Savaria fabricates the rail after you approve the drawing. Installation is on a booked date after that.
A curved rail is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Frequently asked questions
What Is A Curved Stairlift?
A curved stairlift is a chair on a rail that is bent to match a turn, a spiral, or a landing. The Handicare Freecurve is Savaria's single-tube version. A straight chair cannot follow those stairs.
How Much Does A Curved Stairlift Cost In Ontario?
A Handicare Freecurve is quoted after a photo measure. Rail length, bends, parking, seat, and power extras change the figure. Call (905) 451-7743 for a written quote. The Freecurve is sold as a quote, not a printed price.
Does ADP Cover Stairlifts In Ontario?
Funding for a Handicare Freecurve in Ontario depends on the person's situation and assessment. Westin Healthcare works with the programs that may apply. Visit the funding page or call (905) 451-7743 before you buy.
What Is The Weight Capacity?
Savaria rates the Handicare Freecurve at 275 lb (125 kg). There is no heavy-duty option on the current Savaria compare chart.
How Long Does A Custom Rail Take?
Savaria photographs the stairs, you approve the drawing, and the factory bends the tube. Savaria says most curved rails can be made in about a week after approval. We then book the install in the GTA.
Does The Active Seat Work In Quebec?
No. Savaria does not offer the Freecurve Active seat in Quebec. Alliance, Elegance, Classic, and Petite seats are still available. Westin Healthcare will quote a different seat for a Quebec install.
Is This The Same As A Straight Stairlift?
No. The Handicare Freecurve is a custom curved rail. The Handicare 1100 and Handicare 1000 are straight chairs for one straight flight.
Does It Work During A Power Cut?
Yes. The Handicare Freecurve runs on batteries that charge at the top and bottom parks. Savaria says you can use the chair several times if the power fails.
Can I Install The Stairlift Myself?
No. Savaria requires an authorized dealer to install and service a Freecurve. Westin Healthcare does that install in the GTA.
What Warranty Does It Carry?
Savaria covers Handicare Freecurve parts for 24 months. The motor and gearbox are covered for 10 years on an indoor install. Westin Healthcare handles the claim with you.
