Description

The Handicare H2 is a mobile shower and commode chair rated 500 lb (227 kg). It is the standard-capacity, fixed-seat chair in the Handicare H series. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Handicare is part of the Savaria family. The H series runs four chairs and the differences between them are capacity and tilt, nothing else in the naming. Stay on this page when the prescription names H2 and the person is inside 500 lb (227 kg).

Who it is for

This chair is for a person who needs a seated shower or a toileting session and who can hold an upright seated position while a caregiver assists. The seat does not tilt, so the person needs enough trunk control to stay upright for the length of the session.

  • Households and care rooms that asked for the Handicare H2 by name
  • People inside 500 lb (227 kg) who can sit upright through a shower or a toileting session
  • Rooms where the same chair has to do both jobs, rather than a shower chair plus a separate commode
  • Caregivers who want the chair to roll between the shower and the toilet without a second transfer

If the person cannot hold themselves upright, look at the tilt model instead. If the person is near or above 500 lb, look at the bariatric model. Both comparisons are below.

Choosing between the four H series chairs

The series gives you two decisions: do you need tilt, and how much capacity do you need. They interact, because in this series the tilting chair is always rated below the fixed chair it is named after.

  • H2 is the fixed-seat chair at 500 lb (227 kg). This page.
  • H2T adds tilt and is rated 350 lb (159 kg).
  • H3 is the bariatric fixed-seat chair at 750 lb (340 kg).
  • H3T is the bariatric tilt chair at 500 lb (227 kg).

Read that ladder carefully before you order. If you need tilt and the person is over 350 lb, the H2T does not cover it and the H3T is the chair to ask about. If you need 500 lb and no tilt, this page is the right one. Call us and we will confirm the fit against the assessment.

If toileting is not part of the picture at all, our Drive bariatric shower chair with cross frame brace is a shower-only option worth comparing. If a lighter rehab shower commode covers the need, the Ezee Life 18 inch tilt rehab shower commode is a published alternative at a lower capacity. More seated bathing options sit on the bathroom safety page and the commodes page.

Handicare H2 specifications

The figures below are for the H2 and no other chair in the series. The rated capacity is 500 lb (227 kg). Stay inside that number for the person plus anything they are wearing or carrying. Do not read the 750 lb H3 rating or the 350 lb H2T rating onto this page.

If the bathroom is tight, send us the door width and the space beside the toilet and we will check the fit with you. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page.

Height adjustable castors

Height adjustable castors are available for this chair under order code HRZTAC. Handicare lists them for the H2 and H3 models. They let you set the seat height so the chair clears the toilet rim it has to roll over, which matters when the bathroom has a comfort-height or a wall-hung toilet.

They are ordered separately and are not assumed in every carton. Tell us the toilet height when you ask for a quote and we will tell you whether you need them.

Funding help for bathroom safety equipment in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund bathroom safety equipment, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada's Home and Vehicle Modification Program, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), extended health plans, and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, check the brakes, and walk you through the chair in the room it will live in before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a shower and commode chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our rentals hub; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

This chair is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If it is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department, and our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Handicare manufacturer warranty

The frame is warranted for 5 years. Unauthorized changes and non-Handicare parts can void a claim. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What weight can the Handicare H2 hold?

500 lb (227 kg). Stay inside that figure for the person plus anything they wear or carry. If the person is close to that number, ask us about the H3, which is the bariatric model in the series at 750 lb (340 kg).

Is the H2 a shower chair or a commode chair?

Both. It is built to do the shower and the toileting session in one chair, so the person is not transferred twice. Ask us whether a pail and splash guard should be added to your order.

Does the H2 tilt?

No. The H2 has a fixed seat. The H2T is the tilt version of this chair, and it is rated 350 lb (159 kg) rather than 500 lb. If tilt is on the prescription, do not order this page.

What is the difference between the H2 and the H3?

Capacity. The H3 is the bariatric chair in the series at 750 lb (340 kg); the H2 is the standard chair at 500 lb (227 kg). Each also has a tilting version, the H3T at 500 lb and the H2T at 350 lb.

Can I add height adjustable castors?

Yes. Height adjustable castors are available under order code HRZTAC, which Handicare lists for the H2 and H3 models. Tell us the height of the toilet the chair has to clear and we will confirm whether you need them.

What size is the seat?

20 in wide by 18 in deep, with a 21 in seat height as standard. Height adjustable castors (HRZTAC) change the seat height if the toilet rim is higher. If you tell us the bathroom door width and the space beside the toilet, we will check the fit with you at the same time.

Does ADP cover a shower commode chair in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not fund bathroom safety equipment. Other routes may help, including March of Dimes Canada's Home and Vehicle Modification Program, Veterans Affairs Canada, extended health plans, and community programs. Our funding page sets out the options, and our staff will point you to the right one.

How fast can an H2 be set up in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased chairs across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service rather than to a purchased setup.
