This is a foam mattress, not an air system. There is no pump and no motor. Drive lists the family at 6 inches thick in 36-inch widths. The cover is a removable stretch surface with a fluid-resistant nylon top and a waterproof vinyl bottom. Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person who needs more heel offloading than Gravity 7, on a 36-inch hospital bed, without moving to a powered air system. Families usually pick it as the middle Choose Mattress step on a Drive Delta 1000, a Drive Delta 15235, or a Drive SoLite Pro.

Choose Gravity 8 when the therapist has asked for a zoned foam mattress with a sloped heel. If 350 lbs and a visco heel section are enough, start with Gravity 7. If the person needs a full memory-foam top or a 450 lb rating, see Gravity 9. If they need a 42-inch deck, Gravity 8 is the wrong width; Gravity 9 has a 42-inch SKU.

Construction and how it works

Gravity 8 is a three-layer latex-free foam mattress. The full-width top layer is die-cut for zoned pressure redistribution. The heel section is sloped, with a channel-cut foam centre, so the heel sits lower than the calf. Drive's words are that this "offloads pressure from vulnerable heels." That is a construction claim, not a promise that a wound will heal.

The bottom layer has full-length horizontal articulation cuts so the foam can bend when the bed head or foot moves. High-density foam perimeters stiffen the edges. The cover stretches, resists fluid, and is vapor permeable. It zips off. Drive's Gravity series manual says to wipe the cover, not to launder it, and not to open the zipper while you clean.

SKU 15888 is the 80-inch mattress with an elevated foam perimeter. That perimeter is not a metal bed rail.

Drive's current Gravity 8 sheet lists a 10-year limited foam warranty and a 3-year cover warranty for the original purchaser. The spec table prints fire rating CFR 16 Part 1633; the feature bullets also name CFR 1632. Replacement covers are Drive parts 15870C, 15884C, 15886C, and 15888C.

How do I clean the Gravity 8 cover?

Drive's Gravity series manual says to wipe the top and bottom covers with warm water and a mild detergent, or with a recommended disinfectant. For the stretch top, Drive recommends a quaternary cleaner. Do not open the zipper while you clean. Do not launder or autoclave the cover. Let it air dry out of direct sun.

What is the weight rating on Gravity 8?

Drive's current sheet lists 400 lbs. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider deck, ask us about Gravity 9 in 42 inches or a Drive bariatric foam mattress.

What size Gravity 8 fits a standard hospital bed?
