Description
The Golden BuzzAbout is Golden Technologies' GP-164 compact travel power wheelchair. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The person drives with the joystick.
Golden lists a 300 lb (136 kg) rating, speeds up to 4 mph (6.4 km/h), a 28.5 inch (72 cm) turning radius, and up to 11 miles (17.7 km) per charge on the 22AH pair. It takes apart into four pieces. The heaviest piece is the 34 lb (15.4 kg) seat with arms.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who wants a compact captain-seat travel chair, stays at or under the 300 lb rating, and can lift a 34 lb piece into a trunk. Families usually call us when they want motion-sensing LED lights and a higher-back captain, and they do not need a folding carbon frame.
If you want more printed range and a stadium seat, start with the Golden LiteRider Envy. If you want a chair that folds instead of coming apart, see the Golden Stride. The BuzzAbout is not a Buzzaround scooter.
- Four-piece disassembly, heaviest piece 34 lbs
- A 17 by 16 inch captain seat
- Motion-sensing LED lights on the footplate and rear handle
Range, speed, and batteries
The Golden BuzzAbout travels up to 11 miles (17.7 km) per charge on the standard pair of 22AH batteries. Golden's footnote says that figure is at 200 lbs and changes with rider weight, drive surface, terrain, and battery type. The Canada product card rounds the same figure to 18 km.
Top speed is up to 4 mph (6.4 km/h). The charger is off-board. Golden also prints on-board charging. The controller is 40 Amp. The battery pair weighs 28 lbs (12.7 kg). These are 22AH sealed packs, not airline lithium.
Portability and transport
The BuzzAbout takes apart into four pieces: a 29 lb (13.2 kg) front half, a 33 lb (15.0 kg) rear half, a 34 lb seat with arms, and the 28 lb battery pair. Assembled weight is 124 lbs (56.2 kg). It does not fold like a Cricket or an Ally.
The 22AH packs are not printed as airline-friendly. This is a car-trunk travel chair, not a flight lithium chair. For a plane, look at a Golden folder with a lithium pack and still confirm the airline.
Golden BuzzAbout specifications
These figures are for Golden model GP164, as printed on Golden Canada's SHT-GB164-CAN-0326 sell sheet. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Weight capacity 300 lbs (136 kg). Top speed up to 4 mph (6.4 km/h). Turning radius 28.5 inches (72 cm). Length 36 inches (91 cm). Width 23 inches (58 cm) at the front casters. Height to the top of the back 36.75 to 38.75 inches. Seat-to-ground 21.5 to 23.5 inches in three 1 inch steps. Under-deck clearance 2.5 inches (6.4 cm). Rear drive 9 inches. Casters 6 inches. Rear anti-tips 2 inches. Flat-free tires. Rear-wheel drive.
Standard captain seat 17 by 16 inches, back 18 inches, black vinyl. Motion-sensing LED running lights on the footplate and rear handle, activated when the joystick moves. Footrest angle adjustable, height not adjustable. Colours Golden sells are Red and Blue, and the Canada card says both shrouds are included.
Do not mix these numbers with the LiteRider Envy (15.5 miles, 37 lb heaviest, stadium 17 x 17) or with any Buzzaround scooter.
Warranty on the Canada sell sheet is 5 years on the frame, 13 months on the drive train, 13 months on electronics, and 1 year on the batteries.
BuzzAbout or LiteRider Envy
The BuzzAbout is Golden's compact captain-seat take-apart chair with motion-sensing LEDs, an 11 mile printed range, and a 34 lb heaviest piece. The LiteRider Envy is Golden's stadium-seat take-apart sister with a 15.5 mile printed range and a 37 lb heaviest piece. They are separate Golden models. If you want a fold instead of four pieces, start with the Cricket LT or the Stride.
Funding help for a power wheelchair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a power wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Golden manufacturer warranty
Golden Canada's BuzzAbout sell sheet prints 5 years on the frame, 13 months on the drive train, 13 months on electronics, and 1 year on the batteries for the original purchaser. Wear items such as tires and shrouds sit outside that term. Gradual battery wear from storage, cold, or heavy use is outside the battery term. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
