This page is the Geo-Matt Wedge only. The raised front and lower back help hold the user's hips toward the back of the seat. Span cuts the top with the same segmented, non-shearing Geo-Matt surface used across the family, from the same premium high-density foam as the Geo-Matt PRT seat. Who this cushion is for
This cushion is for a wheelchair user who slides forward in the seat and needs a wipeable, non-powered foam wedge whose weight is within Span's 250 lb rating. Span writes it for restraint-free positioning, comfort, prevention of breakdown, and help staying back in the chair.
Families and therapists usually call us when the seating plan asks for a Geo-Matt Wedge, not a flat seat and not a mattress pad. If the care team has asked for an in-bed Span surface, we already stock PressureGuard Custom Care and Span-Care mattresses and will quote those separately.

Construction and how it works
The Geo-Matt Wedge is a non-powered seat cushion. Span cuts a high-resiliency, high-density foam core so the front stands 4 inches high and the back slopes to 2 inches. That taper helps keep the hips from sliding forward. The top is the Geo-Matt segmented surface: individually responsive cells that follow the person and reduce the effect of shear. Ring-of-Air channels help move heat and moisture away from the skin.
The cover on every size on this page has an anti-slip top and a non-skid bottom. The bottom of that cover has a sewn sleeve for Span's molded Sling-Fill base. That insert is sold separately. It fills the hammock in a fabric sling seat and gives the cushion a flat, rigid foundation.

These figures are for the Geo-Matt Wedge in the GMW codes on this page. They are not Contour, not the flat 4 inch Geo-Matt cushion, and not the Geo-Matt overlay. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Span lists a 4 inch front, a 2 inch back, and a 250 lb weight limit on every size. The cushion is non-powered. Span lists an 18-month warranty. Anti-slip covers use the -96 suffix. Fire-barrier versions are ordered by changing that suffix to -29.

Which wheelchairs this cushion fits
Span publishes the Geo-Matt Wedge in wheelchair seat widths of 16, 18, and 20 inches. Choose the width that matches the seat sling or seat pan: 16 by 16, 18 by 16, 18 by 18, or 20 by 18 inches. Span does not name a wheelchair brand or model. Tell us the measured seat width and we will lock the matching code.
Anti-slip covers with the -96 suffix have a sewn sleeve for Span's molded Sling-Fill base. Span writes that the insert fills the gap created by a fabric sling and creates a flat, rigid foundation. The insert is one size and is not included with the cushion. Ask us to add Sling-Fill (2SFB) to the quote when the chair has a hammocked sling seat.

What is the Geo-Matt Wedge?

How is the Wedge different from Geo-Matt Contour?
The Wedge is a 4 to 2 inch taper that holds the hips back. Contour is a 3 inch seat with contoured leg channels and a pelvic bucket. They do not share part numbers. Ask us for Contour if that is the shape the therapist named.
How is the Wedge different from the flat Geo-Matt cushion?
The Wedge tapers from 4 inches to 2 inches and comes in four seat sizes at 250 lb. The flat Geo-Matt cushion is a uniform 4 inch medium-density pad, 18 by 16 inches only, with a 200 lb rating. Pick this card when the plan names the Wedge.
Is this a mattress overlay or a bed wedge?
No. This page is a wheelchair seat. The Geo-Matt overlay is a separate mattress pad in bed sizes such as 33 by 72 inches. Span also cuts a 30 degree Geo-Matt Body Wedge for the bed. Ask us for those products if the clinician named them.
Does this cushion need a pump?
No. The Geo-Matt Wedge is non-powered foam. There is no pump to plug in.
What is the weight rating?
Span lists 250 lb on every Geo-Matt Wedge size. Tell us the person's weight when you order.
What sizes can I get?
Four sizes: 16 by 16, 18 by 16, 18 by 18, and 20 by 18 inches, all with the 4 to 2 inch taper. The default on this page is 16 by 16 inches (GMW1616-96-1).
Which wheelchair does it fit?
Match the cushion width to the wheelchair seat width. Span publishes 16, 18, and 20 inch widths and does not name a chair brand. Measure the seat and we will pick the code.
Can I add a Sling-Fill base?
Yes. The anti-slip cover has a sleeve for Span's molded Sling-Fill insert (2SFB). Span sells the insert separately. Ask us to add it when the wheelchair seat is a fabric sling that hammocks.
What is Ring-of-Air?
It is Span's channel cut around the foam cells. Span writes that it helps reduce heat and moisture at the skin. The Wedge uses the same Geo-Matt surface as the rest of the seating family.
What is the warranty?
Span lists an 18-month warranty on the Geo-Matt Wedge. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work.
What is included?
