Description

The Gemino 30 Parkinson rollator is Sunrise Medical's 4 wheel walker built for people with Parkinson's. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It keeps the Gemino 30 seat and fold, then adds a reverse brake, a slowdown brake, and a button-activated laser line.

Sunrise Canada's 2020 Gemino catalog rates both 30 and 30 M Parkinson frames at 287 lb (130 kg). Standard weighs 16.5 lb (7.5 kg) without the basket. Medium weighs 16.3 lb. Both use 11 x 1.4 in wheels, larger than the standard Gemino 30's 8 in set.

Who this rollator is for

This rollator is for a person with Parkinson's who wants a 4-wheel walker with a seat, stays at or under 287 lb, and whose therapist or authorizer has asked about a reverse brake, a slowdown brake, or a laser cue. Families usually call us when a standard rollator runs away during a freeze, or when the person needs a line on the ground to step toward.

If you do not need those three features, start with the Gemino 30 rollator. If you want forearm troughs, see the Gemino 30 Walker. For a Canadian 4-wheel we already stock, see the Drive Nitro Sprint.

  • Reverse brake: the frame stops when the lever is released
  • Adjustable slowdown brake for a steadier pace
  • A handle-button laser line the maker describes as a cue to step over

Fit and height

Stand in everyday walking shoes with your arms relaxed. Standard Parkinson handles run 31-39 in (79-99 cm) for users about 4 ft 11 in to 6 ft 7 in. Medium 27-35 in (69-89 cm) for about 4 ft 5 in to 5 ft 7 in. Seat height is 24 in (61 cm) standard and 22 in (56 cm) Medium. Width between the centres of the push handles is 19 in (48 cm). Ask us to match the size before we order.

Wheels, brakes, and the laser cue

The Gemino 30 Parkinson uses 11 x 1.4 in wheels front and rear. Folded width is 9 in. Folded length is 10 in, shorter than the standard Gemino 30's 26 in folded length.

Three brake stories sit on this frame, as Sunrise writes them. The reverse braking system means the rollator immediately stops moving once the brake is released. That is the opposite of a standard rollator, which rolls until you squeeze. Sunrise says this can help if you freeze and it feels like your feet are glued to the ground. The slowdown brake adds adjustable resistance so you can walk at a steadier pace. The laser is a line on the ground, not a treatment. Sunrise's card: a laser line can help you get going again if you freeze; you activate it by pressing a button on the push handles; by concentrating on the line you can then step over it and get moving again. It does not treat Parkinson's. It does not always restart a freeze. Ask the therapist whether a visual cue is appropriate.

Weight and portability

Standard weighs 16.5 lb (7.5 kg) without the basket, 17.2 lb with it. Medium 16.3 lb (17 lb with basket). The catalog basket is rated at 11 lb (5 kg). Do not use the rollator as a wheelchair.

Gemino 30 Parkinson rollator specifications

These figures are for the Gemino 30 Parkinson and 30 M Parkinson as printed in Sunrise Medical Canada's 2020 Gemino catalog technical table. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Both sizes: 24 in wide, 26 in long, 287 lb (130 kg) rating, 11 x 1.4 in wheels, 33 in turning radius, 19 in between handle centres. Standard: seat 24 in, handles 31-39 in, 16.5 lb without basket, folded 32 x 10 x 9 in. Medium: seat 22 in, handles 27-35 in, 16.3 lb, folded 30 x 10 x 9 in. Catalog colour: Silver grey.

Warranty coverage on the CA product card may vary from one province to another depending on funding requirements. Ask us which term ships with your rollator.

Gemino 30 Parkinson or Gemino 30

The Gemino 30 Parkinson is the 287 lb, 11 in wheel Gemino with reverse brake, slowdown brake, and laser cue. The Gemino 30 is the 331 lb standard rollator with 8 in wheels and ordinary loop brakes. They are separate models. Do not order the 30 if the therapist asked for the Parkinson brakes and laser.

Among rollators we already stock, the Drive Nitro Sprint and the Evolution Xpresso Lite do not include a laser or a reverse brake.

Funding help for a walker or rollator in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a walker or rollator when the need is long-term and the aid is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every model qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this rollator across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, unfold it, set the handle height, and show you the reverse brake, the slowdown brake, and the laser button before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a 4 wheel walker first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased rollators are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the rollator is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the rollator needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Sunrise Medical Gemino warranty

Sunrise Medical Canada's Gemino 30 Parkinson card says warranty coverage may vary from one province to another depending on funding requirements. We handle the claim with you. Ask us which term ships with your rollator, and whether an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Gemino 30 Parkinson Have a Laser?

The Gemino 30 Parkinson has a laser line you switch on with a button on the push handles. Sunrise says you can concentrate on the line on the ground and step over it if you freeze. It is a visual cue. It is not a treatment for Parkinson's, and it does not always restart a freeze.

What Is a Reverse Brake on a Rollator?

On the Gemino 30 Parkinson, the reverse brake means the rollator stops as soon as you release the lever. A standard Gemino 30 rolls until you squeeze. Sunrise added that stop-on-release action for people who freeze while walking.

Does ADP Cover Rollators?

Some Ontario routes can help with a walker or rollator when the need is long-term and an assessment supports it. Eligibility depends on the person's situation. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.

How Do I Choose a Rollator Height?

The Gemino 30 Parkinson standard handles adjust from 31-39 in (79-99 cm). Medium handles run 27-35 in. Seat height is 24 in or 22 in. Ask the therapist which size fits.

How Much Does the Gemino 30 Parkinson Weigh?

The Gemino 30 Parkinson standard weighs 16.5 lb (7.5 kg) without the basket on Sunrise Canada's 2020 catalog. Medium weighs 16.3 lb.

What Is the Weight Capacity?

The Gemino 30 Parkinson is rated at 287 lb (130 kg) in both sizes. That is lower than the standard Gemino 30's 331 lb rating. Stay at or under 287 lb.

Walker Vs Rollator: Which Is Better?

The Gemino 30 Parkinson is a rollator: four wheels, a seat, and special brakes. A standard walker has no seat and is lifted with each step. Choose this model when the person can use the reverse brake and wants the laser cue. Do not use it as a wheelchair.

Can I Use the Gemino 30 Parkinson Outdoors?

The Gemino 30 Parkinson uses 11 in wheels, larger than the standard Gemino 30. Sunrise presents it for indoor and outdoor city use. Lock the reverse-brake habit in before you take it outside.

How Is This Different From the Gemino 30?

The Gemino 30 Parkinson adds the reverse brake, the slowdown brake, and the laser, uses 11 in wheels, and is rated at 287 lb. The Gemino 30 uses 8 in wheels and ordinary loop brakes at 331 lb.

What Colours Can I Order?

Sunrise Canada's 2020 catalog lists Silver grey for the Gemino 30 Parkinson. Ask us which colour we can put on your order.
