Description
The Ezee Life CH1096 is an 18 inch lightweight folding wheelchair from Canadian Med Healthcare. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is a standard wheelchair with 24 inch rear wheels and pushrims. The person in the seat can self-propel, or a caregiver can push from the handles.
Ezee Life's current CH1096 page lists an 18 inch by 16 inch seat, a 20 inch seat height, a 300 lb weight capacity, and a 35 lb aluminum frame. Front casters are 8 inches. Tires are solid and flat-free. Arms flip back and lift off. Swing-away footrests are standard. The matching 20 inch aluminum chair is the CH1097, not a second size of CH1096.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who wants an 18 inch seat and a lighter aluminum frame, and who may still self-propel on 24 inch wheels. Families usually call us when a steel 18 inch chair feels heavy to lift into the car, or when a transport chair with small rear wheels would leave the person unable to wheel themselves.
If you only need a companion-pushed chair with small rear wheels, look at a transport chair such as the Drive Poly-Fly TR18 instead of this CH1096. If you want the same aluminum chair in 20 inches, see the Ezee Life CH1097. If you want another everyday self-propel frame, see the Drive Cruiser X4 and the rest of our standard wheelchairs.
- An 18 inch seat and a 300 lb rating
- Someone who may self-propel, or who may be pushed
- A lighter aluminum fold for the car or a closet
Design and build
The CH1096 is an aluminum folding frame with a dual cross brace. Pull up on the seat to fold it for the car or a closet. The rear wheels are 24 inches with pushrims, which is how the person self-propels. Front casters are 8 inches. Tires are solid, so there is no inner tube to flatten.
Arms are desk length. They flip back for a table or a side transfer, and they lift off when you press the pin. Footrests swing away and come off. The back folds down. Ezee Life also lists a calf strap, a seat belt, and extended brake handles. The user manual shows anti-tippers. Upholstery is PVC vinyl. Ezee Life describes this model as suitable for everyday all-day use and for off-the-shelf seating products.
- Folding aluminum frame with a dual cross brace
- 24 inch rear wheels with pushrims
- 8 inch casters and solid tires
- Desk-length flip-back arms that also lift off
- Swing-away, removable footrests
- Fold-down back, seat belt, and calf strap

Funding help for a manual wheelchair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a manual wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the brakes, the fold, and the footrests before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Ezee Life manufacturer warranty
Ezee Life covers the original purchaser for one year against manufacturing defects, faulty materials, and workmanship. The user manual names Factory Direct Medical as the warranty desk. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Is the CH1096 a transport chair or a standard wheelchair?
It is a standard wheelchair. Ezee Life titles it an 18 inch lightweight wheelchair and lists it with the lightweight models, not with the transport chairs (those are CH1041 to CH1044). The 24 inch rear wheels and pushrims are the giveaway. A transport chair has small rear wheels and is pushed by a companion only.
Who can self-propel this chair?
A person who can reach the pushrims and has the arm strength for their own terrain can self-propel. A caregiver can still push from the handles. Ezee Life writes that this model provides independent or dependent mobility. If nobody in the seat will ever push the rims, a lighter transport chair may be easier to lift.
What are the pushrims for?
Pushrims are the metal hoops on the 24 inch rear wheels. The person in the seat holds those hoops to roll, slow, or turn the chair. They are the difference between a self-propel wheelchair and a companion-only transport chair.
Will this chair fold into a car trunk?
The aluminum frame folds, and the back folds down. Ezee Life prints a folded width of 11.5 inches and 35 lbs for the chair. Flip the footplates up, or take the footrests off, before you lift. Come into a Brampton or Toronto store if you want to try the fold on your vehicle.
How should the 18 inch seat fit?
Measure the person's hip width and leave a little room on each side. Ezee Life lists 18 inches wide by 16 inches deep. If 18 inches is tight, ask us about the 20 inch CH1097. If you need still more width, look at the 22 inch CH1091.
What is the weight capacity?
Ezee Life lists 300 lbs for CH1096. If the person is near 300 lbs, tell us before we book delivery so we can confirm the chair is the right class.
Why 24 inch wheels instead of 12 inch transport wheels?
24 inch wheels with pushrims let the person wheel themselves and roll more easily over small thresholds. They make the chair a little wider and harder to lift than a transport chair. Choose 24 inch wheels when independence matters. Choose a transport chair when a companion will always push and you want a lighter lift.
Can I get elevating legrests on the CH1096?
Use Choose Legrest if the order needs elevating hangers instead of the standard swing-away footrests. Ezee Life's aluminum manual describes the 60 degree swing-away footrests that ship on this chair. Call (905) 451-7743 if you want us to confirm the hanger style before delivery.
What is the warranty on the CH1096?
One year against manufacturing defects, faulty materials, and workmanship, for the original purchaser. Wear, accident, misuse, and improper assembly are not covered. Westin Healthcare processes the claim. Details are on our service and repairs page.
Does funding help with this wheelchair in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with mobility equipment, and eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy. We will point you to the right path for your case.
Can I rent a wheelchair before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents chairs for short-term needs. See the folding wheelchair rental page and the transport wheelchair rental page. A rental chair may be a different model than the CH1096. Call (905) 451-7743 to check what is on the floor.
What is included with CH1096?
You get the 18 inch aluminum folding wheelchair with flip-back arms, swing-away footrests, a seat belt, and a calf strap. Use Choose Legrest if the order needs elevating hangers. A cushion is not listed as included on Ezee Life's page.
