EZ-ACCESS still sells this line new as the SUITCASE TRIFOLD AS (models TFAS05, TFAS06, TFAS07, TFAS08, and TFAS10). Canadian dealer cards still call it the Trifold Advantage Series. It is the long portable ramp in the suitcase family. It folds in three, splits into two carry sections, and is made for raised landings, several steps, or a larger vehicle. It is a temporary or semi-permanent aid, not a modular building ramp.

Who this ramp is for

This portable wheelchair ramp is for a household that needs more length than a 2 to 6 ft suitcase, and that can lift each half (16 to 30 lb / 7.3 to 13.6 kg, depending on length). Families usually call us when a van, a porch, or two to four steps is too high for a short suitcase ramp.

Length, slope, and surface

Use Size to pick 5, 6, 7, 8, or 10 feet. EZ-ACCESS prints usage guidelines, not a hard rise limit: 5 ft for curbs, 1-2 steps, and some minivans; 6 and 7 ft for 1-3 steps and some minivans and SUVs; 8 ft for 2-3 steps and some minivans and SUVs; 10 ft for 2-4 steps and some minivans and SUVs. Always stay inside the slope the wheelchair or scooter maker allows.

The EZ-ACCESS Incline Calculator treats 1:12 as the ADA Standard and also offers 1:10 (IRC Acceptable), 1:8, and 1:6. The maker says start with the ADA Standard and confirm the ratio with local codes. The printed incline chart is a guideline only. EZ-ACCESS tells you to use this ramp with a qualified helper and a lap belt at any incline.

The walking surface is an applied slip-resistant texture. Side curbs are typically 2 7/16 in. The top plate is fixed, with holes for the supplied clevis pins. The bottom plates self-adjust to the ground. The surface may be slippery when wet. Do not use it if ice, snow, dirt, leaves, or debris cover the tread.

Folding and portability

The SUITCASE TRIFOLD AS folds in half, then in half the long way, so the folded pack is about half as long and half as wide as the open ramp. Folded sizes run from 30.75 x 15 x 11.5 in on the 5 ft to 60.75 x 15 x 11.5 in on the 10 ft. Hook and loop tabs keep the halves closed while you carry it.

Removing two hinge bolts splits the ramp into two sections. EZ-ACCESS rates each half at 16 lb (7.3 kg) on the 5 ft, 19 lb (8.6 kg) on the 6 ft, 22 lb (10.0 kg) on the 7 ft, 25 lb (11.3 kg) on the 8 ft, and 30 lb (13.6 kg) on the 10 ft. Separated halves are only for loading unoccupied equipment. Rejoin them before a person uses the ramp.

Ramp length

Use Size to pick 5 Feet, 6 Feet, 7 Feet, 8 Feet, or 10 Feet. That is the same length set as Select Ramp Size. The 5 ft is TFAS05. The 6 ft is TFAS06. The 7 ft is TFAS07. The 8 ft is TFAS08. The 10 ft is TFAS10.

Ask us if you need the SUITCASE Top Lip Extension. That kit lengthens the top lip from 3 in to 9 in so the ramp can clear some van bumpers. EZ-ACCESS reduces the rating to 500 lb (227 kg) when the TLE is on.

Suitcase ramp or trifold ramp

A suitcase ramp folds once and stays the full length when folded. A trifold ramp folds again the long way, so a 7 or 10 ft ramp still fits in a trunk. The Suitcase Singlefold is the extruded one-piece suitcase in 2 to 8 ft. The Suitcase Singlefold AS is the applied-surface suitcase that splits, in 2 to 6 ft. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund ramps, so plan around other routes.
