Span builds it with a viscoelastic memory foam top, a firm contoured foundation for the legs and pelvis, a soft zone under the sitting bones, and three gel-like polymer pads under the thighs, the hips, and the tailbone. Span lists a 250 lb weight limit on the standard sizes and a 500 lb limit on the 22 inch and 24 inch bariatric sizes. If a clinician has named a Geo-Matt cushion, Gel-T, or Geo-Wave, ask us for that product. Those are separate Span articles.

Families and therapists usually call us when the person already uses a wheelchair and the seating plan asks for The Equalizer, not a mattress pad and not a gel-only cushion. If the care team has asked for an in-bed Span surface, we already stock PressureGuard Custom Care and Span-Care mattresses and will quote those separately.

Construction and how it works
The Equalizer is a non-powered seat cushion. The top is viscoelastic memory foam for softness and conformance. Under that, three zones of a gel-like soft polymer sit at the thighs, the greater trochanters, and the ischial and tailbone region. The foundation layer is firm and contoured so the femurs and pelvis sit in a set path. A softer insert in the base adds extra give under the bony points that take the most load in sitting.
The cover is moisture-resistant, with a two-way stretch fabric top, a rugged nylon bottom, and a front carry handle. The bottom of the cover has a sewn sleeve for Span's molded Sling-Fill base. That insert is sold separately. Span writes that it adds stability in a fabric sling seat.

Which wheelchairs this cushion fits
Span publishes The Equalizer in wheelchair seat widths of 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 inches. Seat depths on the codes are 16 inches (EQ1616 and EQ1816) or 18 inches (EQ1818, EQ2018, BEQ2218, and BEQ2418). Choose the width that matches the seat sling or seat pan. Span does not name a wheelchair brand or model. Tell us the measured seat width and depth and we will lock the matching code.
The cover has a sewn sleeve for Span's molded Sling-Fill base. Span writes that the insert is for added stability in a fabric sling seat. The insert is one size and is not included with the cushion. Ask us to add Sling-Fill (2SFB) to the quote when the chair has a hammocked sling seat.

How is The Equalizer different from a Geo-Matt cushion or Gel-T?
The Equalizer uses a contoured foam stack plus three gel-like polymer zones and a 2-year warranty. A Geo-Matt seat uses segmented foam cells. Gel-T is a 2.5 inch gel bladder cushion without the Equalizer positioning base. They do not share part numbers.
Does this cushion need a pump?
No. The Equalizer is non-powered foam and polymer. There is no pump to plug in.
What is the weight rating?
Span lists 250 lb on the standard sizes and 500 lb on the 22 inch and 24 inch bariatric sizes. All sizes are 3.5 inches high. Tell us the person's weight when you order.
What sizes can I get?
Standard: 16 by 16, 18 by 16, 18 by 18, and 20 by 18 inches. Bariatric: 22 by 18 and 24 by 18 inches. Every size is 3.5 inches high. The default on this page is 18 by 16 inches (EQ1816).
Which wheelchair does it fit?
Match the cushion width to the wheelchair seat width, then pick 16 or 18 inches of depth. Span publishes those five widths and does not name a chair brand. Measure the seat and we will pick the code.
What do the three gel-like zones do?
Span places a proprietary gel-like soft polymer under the thighs, the greater trochanters, and the ischial and tailbone region. Span writes that those zones add pressure dispersion at those three sitting loads.
Can I add a Sling-Fill base?
Yes. The cover has a sleeve for Span's molded Sling-Fill insert (2SFB). Span sells the insert separately. Ask us to add it when the wheelchair seat is a fabric sling that hammocks.
What is the warranty?
Span lists a 2-year warranty on The Equalizer. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work.
