Construction and how it works

This is a mattress replacement. Fourteen 8-inch cells (4.5 inches of therapy air over 3.5 inches of static air) sit under the body. Four 6-inch cells at the foot are therapy only and create the heel slope. A 3-1 cycle deflates one cell in every three. Static mode is low air loss with no cell movement. A mesh centre strip keeps the cells together when the head is raised.

The compressor-style pump is what Blake calls whisper quiet, with seven pressure settings. Fowler Boost (upright mode) adds air under the buttocks when the head of the bed is up. The cover is quilted nylon.

Both are Blake micro low air loss surfaces with a 3-1 cycle. Emotion has a 6-inch heel slope, Fowler Boost, seven pressure settings, and a 440 lb rating. Salute RDX has 18 equal 8-inch cells, Happy Heel, eight settings, and a 500 lb rating.

Is this an overlay or a replacement?

A replacement. The existing mattress comes off. The lower 3.5 inches of the body cells stay static if the power fails.
