Description
The Drive Steel Transport Chair is Drive Medical's silver vein steel companion chair, sold in 17 inch (TR37E-SV) and 19 inch (TR39E-SV). Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is the steel, attendant-pushed chair in this Drive family, not a self-propel wheelchair.
Drive lists a 26 lb chair, a 250 lb weight capacity, and 8 inch casters at the front and the rear. The back folds down so the chair can ride in a car. A caregiver pushes it. The person in the seat does not propel it.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who needs a compact seat for short trips and has someone to push. Families usually call us when someone needs a chair for appointments, visits, or travel, and a full-size wheelchair with 24 inch wheels would be heavier than they want to lift.
Pick 17 inch if that is the seat width that fits. Pick 19 inch if the person needs the extra two inches. If the person needs to push themselves, start with the Drive Poly-Fly TR18 instead of stretching this chair. If you want a lighter aluminum companion chair in a similar width, see the Drive Aluminum Transport Chair ATC17/ATC19.
- Companion-pushed trips to appointments, shops, and family visits
- A 17 inch or 19 inch seat and a 250 lb Drive rating
- A chair that folds down for a car trunk or a closet
Design and build
The frame is steel with Drive's silver vein finish. Nylon upholstery wipes clean. Armrests are padded. Swing-away footrests come on the chair so transfers are not blocked by a fixed plate.
All four wheels are 8 inch casters. That keeps the chair short and easy to turn indoors. It is not the same ride as a chair with 12 inch or 24 inch rear wheels. Rear wheel locks hold the chair while the person sits down or stands up. Drive's owner manual says a safety belt is fitted on the chair and should stay on.
To fold, the back comes down and the upholstery handles help you close the frame. Drive's owner manual says a caregiver should operate this chair. It is not a car seat.
Drive Steel Transport Chair specifications
These figures are for Westin SKUs TR37E-SV (17 inch) and TR39E-SV (19 inch). The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet for this pair lists a 26 lb chair, a 31 lb carton, a 250 lb capacity, a 19 inch seat-to-floor height, an 18 inch back, and a 16 inch seat depth.
Both widths share those numbers. The seat width is the difference: 17 inches or 19 inches. Drive's sheet does not print an overall width for this pair, so that number is not guessed here.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Drive's Lifetime Limited term: defects in materials and workmanship for the life of that purchaser. It does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to rubber accessories, casters, and grips.
Width and footrest options
Use Width to set the seat. Use the footrest selector if you need to change the rigging. Drive ships swing-away footrests as standard on both SKUs.
Width
Pick 17" W for TR37E-SV or 19" W for TR39E-SV. Measure the seated hip width and leave a little room on each side. If 19 inches is still tight, ask us about a wider Drive transport chair rather than forcing this frame.
Legrest Type and Legrest Footrest Type
Drive's current sheet for this chair names swing-away footrests as standard. The only accessory Drive prints on the card is the STDS1040S cup holder, sold separately. If you need elevating rigging, call (905) 451-7743 before you order so we can confirm what will ship.
Funding help for a transport wheelchair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers manual and power wheelchairs but does not cover transport chairs, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. If a self-propelled wheelchair could suit the person's needs, an ADP assessment may open 75% funding on an eligible chair. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Drive manufacturer warranty
Drive's owner manual for this chair prints a Lifetime Limited Warranty for the original purchaser: free of defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of that purchaser. The warranty does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to non-durable parts such as rubber accessories, casters, and grips. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between this transport chair and a standard wheelchair?
A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels so the person can push themselves. This Drive steel chair has 8 inch casters at the front and the rear. A caregiver pushes it. It is lighter to fold into a car, and it is not meant for self-propel.
Who pushes the Drive Steel Transport Chair?
A companion or attendant. Drive's owner manual says the chair should not be used without that help. The person in the seat rides. They do not propel.
Will it fold into a car trunk?
The back folds down and the frame closes. Drive designed that fold for storage and transport. We can show you the fold in the store or at delivery. It is not approved as a seat inside a moving vehicle.
How do I choose 17 inch or 19 inch?
Use Width. TR37E-SV is 17 inches. TR39E-SV is 19 inches. Measure the seated hip width and add a little room. If 19 inches is still tight, ask us about a wider Drive transport chair.
What is the weight capacity?
Drive lists 250 lbs for both TR37E-SV and TR39E-SV. If the person is near that limit, or needs a 20 inch or 22 inch seat, look at the Drive 20 inch BTR20 or the Drive 22 inch BTR22.
Why 8 inch wheels instead of 12 inch or 24 inch?
Eight inch casters keep the chair compact and easy to turn indoors. Twelve inch rear wheels (on Drive's bariatric steel transport chairs) roll a bit more easily outdoors. Twenty-four inch wheels (on the Poly-Fly) let the person self-propel. This steel chair is the compact, caregiver-pushed option.
What is the warranty?
Drive's sheet and owner manual print a Lifetime Limited term for the original purchaser. Wear items such as casters and grips are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim. Details are on our service and repairs page.
Can funding help with this chair in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with mobility equipment. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Can I rent a transport chair before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents some mobility equipment. Ask us whether a transport chair can go out as a rental for your dates. Purchased chairs are delivered on a scheduled date.
Does this chair have a seat belt?
Drive's owner manual says a safety belt is already attached and should not be removed. Use it when the person is in the chair.
What colour is the frame?
Drive finishes this pair in silver vein with black nylon upholstery. It comes in one finish.
What is included with TR37E-SV or TR39E-SV?
You get the steel transport chair in the width you pick, swing-away footrests, padded armrests, 8 inch casters, and rear wheel locks. The Drive cup holder is a separate accessory.
