Description
The Drive Scout 4 wheel scooter is a compact 4-wheel travel scooter from Drive Medical, model SFSCOUT4. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Drive's last SFSCOUT4 family table rates it at 14.5 km (9 miles) with the standard 12V x 12AH pair, 6.8 km/h (4.25 mph), and 136 kg (300 lb). It takes apart like the 3-wheel Scout. The heaviest piece is the 17.7 kg (39 lb) front section. This is a take-apart travel scooter, not a folding scooter and not the newer Scout LT.
Who this scooter is for
This scooter is for a person who wants a 4-wheel travel scooter for shops and smooth outdoor pavement, and who can lift a 17.7 kg (39 lb) front section into a car. Families usually call us when a 3-wheel Scout feels too narrow on uneven walks, or when a full-size scooter will not fit the trunk.
If you want the tighter indoor Scout, see the Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter. If you want a scooter that folds instead of coming apart, see the Drive ZooMe Flex. The Scout 4 is not a recreational 24 km/h scooter.
- 4-wheel travel class, 54.6 cm (21.5") wide
- Takes apart; heaviest piece 17.7 kg (39 lb)
- 136 kg (300 lb) rating, 14.5 km (9 miles) with the 12AH pair
Range, speed, and batteries
Drive prints a top speed of 6.8 km/h (4.25 mph) and a maximum range of 14.5 km (9 miles) on the standard 12V x 12AH pair for SFSCOUT4. That range is the manufacturer figure for a full charge. Real distance drops with rider weight, cold weather, hills, stop-and-go use, and battery age.
The pack is a quick-connect 12V x 12AH pair charged on a 2A off-board charger. Charge after each day of use. Drive's last SFSCOUT4 table does not print a clock-time to full. Scout LT 20AH figures belong to SKU SCOUTLT4-EXT, not to SFSCOUT4.
Portability and transport
A travel scooter Canada buyers put in a car trunk is often a take-apart Scout. The Scout 4 comes apart the same way as the 3-wheel: basket, seat, battery pack, tiller, then front and rear. Drive lists total weight 42.6 kg (94 lb) and the heaviest piece 17.7 kg (39 lb). That is more lift than the 3-wheel Scout's 13.2 kg (29 lb) front section.
Drive does not call the Scout 4 an airline scooter. The batteries are a 12V x 12AH pair, not the ZooMe lithium pack. If the scooter has to fly, tell the airline before you travel and follow that carrier's mobility-aid rules.
Drive Scout 4-Wheel Travel Scooter specifications

Warranty on that Drive table is lifetime on the frame, 14 months on electronics, and 6 months on batteries. That is the last SFSCOUT4 sheet. The current 3-wheel Scout card uses 24 months and 12 months. Ask us which term Drive will honour on the unit we have.
3-wheel Scout or 4-wheel Scout
The Drive Scout 4-Wheel Travel Scooter is the wider Scout: 53.75 inch turn, 21.5 inch width, 42.6 kg (94 lb), 17.7 kg (39 lb) heaviest piece. The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter uses the same 6.8 km/h (4.25 mph) speed, 14.5 km (9 miles) 12AH range, and 136 kg (300 lb) rating, with a 45.5 inch turn, 20.5 inch width, 38.6 kg (85 lb) total, and a 13.2 kg (29 lb) heaviest piece. Choose four wheels for a wider stance. Choose three wheels for tighter indoor turns and a lighter front section.
If you would rather fold than take apart, compare the Drive ZooMe Flex and the Drive ZooMe Auto-Flex.
Funding help for a mobility scooter in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a mobility scooter when the need is long-term and the scooter is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every scooter qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

What is the heaviest piece on a travel scooter?

Can a mobility scooter fit in a car trunk?

Can I take a mobility scooter on a plane?
The Drive Scout 4-Wheel Travel Scooter is not sold as an airline lithium scooter. Tell the airline you are bringing a take-apart scooter with a 12V x 12AH pair and follow that carrier's mobility-aid rules.
Can you use a mobility scooter in the rain?

Does ADP cover scooters?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can fund a power scooter when an ADP-registered therapist assesses a long-term need and the scooter is an approved device. Westin Healthcare walks families through the funding page path. We cannot promise that a specific person or a specific Scout will be approved.
3 wheel vs 4 wheel scooter?
The Drive Scout 4-Wheel Travel Scooter is the wider, heavier Scout (53.75 inch turn, 21.5 inch width, 94 lb). The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter is the tighter indoor Scout (45.5 inch turn, 20.5 inch width, 85 lb). Same speed, range, and 300 lb rating.
How long does a mobility scooter battery last?
Drive's last SFSCOUT4 table covers batteries for 6 months. How many seasons a pack works depends on charge habits, storage, and use. Charge after each day of use and do not leave the pack sitting flat.
