Description

The Drive Lightweight Expedition is Drive Medical's 19 lb aluminum transport chair with 12 inch rear flat-free wheels. Westin Healthcare sells it in blue (EXP19LTBL) and red (EXP19LTRD), delivers it, and shows you the fold and the companion brakes for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is the outdoor-rolling sibling of the 8 inch Drive ATC17 / ATC19.

A transport chair is pushed by a caregiver. Drive fits companion-activated wheel locks and a lever on the back so the chair folds flat. Drive lists a 300 lb weight capacity, a 19 inch by 16 inch seat, and a 19 lb frame.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a caregiver to push them, and for the caregiver who wants 12 inch rear wheels instead of four small 8 inch wheels. Families usually call us when sidewalks, clinic parks, and building thresholds have been hard on a lighter 8 inch chair.

If you want the lightest 8 inch chair in this family, start with the Drive Fly-Lite. If you want a 17 inch seat, use the Drive ATC17. If the person will push themselves on large rear wheels, ask us about a standard wheelchair such as the Drive Cruiser X4.

  • Caregiver-pushed trips on pavement as well as indoors
  • A 19 inch seat with a 300 lb rating
  • Anyone who needs a 19 lb chair that folds flat for a car trunk

Design and build

The frame is aluminum, in blue or red. Drive fits a seat belt, padded armrests, upholstery, and swing-away footrests. A lever on the back drops the backrest. The whole chair folds flat for the trunk or a closet.

The rear wheels are 12 inch flat-free. The front casters are 8 inch. Companion handbrakes and companion-activated wheel locks sit at the caregiver's hands. The person in the seat does not self-propel on these wheels.

  • 19 lb aluminum frame in blue or red
  • Folds flat; back lever drops the backrest
  • 12 inch rear flat-free wheels and 8 inch front casters
  • Companion handbrakes and wheel locks
  • Seat belt, padded armrests, and swing-away footrests

Drive Lightweight Expedition specifications

These figures are for Westin SKUs EXP19LTBL and EXP19LTRD. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet lists a 19 inch by 16 inch seat, a 19 inch seat-to-floor height, an 18 inch back, a 300 lb weight capacity, a 19 lb chair, and a 24 lb carton.

Overall width is 22 inches open and 10.75 inches closed. Drive's owner booklet prints 8 inch front casters with the 12 inch rear wheels.

Warranty for the original purchaser is a limited lifetime on remaining components, with 5 years on the brake handle and housing. Tires, upholstery, and other wear items are not covered.

Colour

Use Choose Color for the frame Drive builds. Blue is EXP19LTBL. Red is EXP19LTRD. Drive does not publish another seat width or another rear-wheel size on this chair. The Expedition you receive has 12 inch rear flat-free wheels.

Funding help for a transport wheelchair in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers manual and power wheelchairs but does not cover transport chairs, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. If a self-propelled wheelchair could suit the person's needs, an ADP assessment may open 75% funding on an eligible chair. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this transport chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the brakes and how the chair folds before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our transport wheelchair rental service; purchased transport chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Drive manufacturer warranty

Drive covers the original purchaser for 5 years on the brake handle and housing, and for a limited lifetime on the remaining components. Tires, upholstery, and other wear items are not covered. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a transport chair and a standard wheelchair?

A transport chair has smaller wheels and is pushed by a caregiver. A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels so the person can push themselves. The Expedition is a transport chair. The 12 inch rear wheels help the caregiver on pavement. They are not self-propel wheels.

Who pushes this chair?

The caregiver pushes and uses the companion handbrakes. Drive's owner booklet says the chair should not be used without an attendant.

Will it fold into a car trunk?

Yes. Drive designed the Expedition to fold flat, and a lever on the back drops the backrest. Closed width is 10.75 inches. At 19 lbs it is light enough for most adults to lift. Drive also says it is not a vehicle seat. The person rides in the car seat, not in the folded chair.

What seat width is this?

Drive builds this chair as a 19 inch by 16 inch seat. There is no 17 inch Expedition. If 19 inches is too wide, use the 17 inch ATC17. If it is too narrow, ask us about the 22 inch ATC22.

What is the weight capacity?

Drive lists 300 lbs. If the person is near that limit, ask us about a bariatric transport chair instead of stretching this frame.

Why 12 inch rear wheels instead of 8 inch?

Twelve inch flat-free rear wheels roll over cracked sidewalks and short thresholds more easily than four 8 inch wheels. They add a little rolling height. The chair is still 19 lbs. This chair is the 12 inch Expedition, not an 8 inch ATC.

What is the warranty?

For the original purchaser, Drive covers the brake handle and housing for 5 years and the remaining components for a limited lifetime. Tires, upholstery, and other wear items are excluded. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

Is funding available in Ontario?

Depending on the person's situation and assessment, funding support may be available for mobility equipment. Visit the funding page or call (905) 451-7743 before you buy.

Can I rent a transport chair before I buy?

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents transport wheelchairs for short stays and visits. See the transport wheelchair rental page, or call (905) 451-7743. Purchased chairs are delivered on a scheduled date.

What is included?

You get the Drive Expedition aluminum transport chair with 12 inch rear flat-free wheels, 8 inch front casters, companion handbrakes, a seat belt, padded armrests, and swing-away footrests. Use Choose Color for blue or red.

How is this different from the Fly-Lite?

Both are Drive aluminum transport chairs with a 300 lb rating and a 19 inch seat. The Expedition is 19 lbs with 12 inch rear wheels and companion handbrakes. The Fly-Lite is 16.2 lbs without footrests, with 8 inch rear wheels and 6 inch front casters.
