Description

This 24V 3.5A XLR scooter battery charger is an off-board charger for Pride mobility scooters that Pride lists as 3.5 amp off-board. Westin SKU ALE1803400. The current carton we describe is the Universal Power Group 24BC3500T-4 (UPG 71699) with a 3-pin XLR plug. Westin Healthcare sells it in Brampton and can match the scooter and the socket across the Greater Toronto Area.

Which Pride scooters this charger is for

Pride's own charger table lists 3.5 amp off-board for these models. Use that table, not a generic "fits Pride" line. The UPG sheet adds a 3-pin XLR male plug and a 12-35Ah battery range.

Pride lists Go-Go travel scooters at 2 amp off-board. This 3.5A charger is not the Go-Go charger. Pride lists Victory 10 at 3 amp (U-1) or 5 amp (40Ah), Victory LX Sport at 5 amp, and Wrangler / Raptor at 8 amp. Pride says to use the charger matched to the scooter's battery. Confirm the tiller or battery-box socket is the 3-pin XLR this lead fits.

How the charger works

The UPG 71699 sheet prints a three-stage AGM charge (factory default): 3,500 mA fast charge to 29.6V, a topping stage, then a 27.4V float. A front switch selects GEL (28.6V fast / 26.6V float). Input is 100-240 Vac. The lead is 1.8 m with an XLR 3-pin male. The sheet lists short-circuit, over-current, over-voltage, and reverse-polarity protection, plus an auto-restart at 25.3V. It is not a DC power supply. Use it with the scooter parked and the maker's charging chapter, not as a running supply.

SLA, AGM, gel, and the charger ladder

This charger is 24V 3.5A for AGM or gel sealed pairs in the 12-35Ah window the UPG sheet prints. Travel-scooter 12Ah and 18Ah Go-Go packs take Pride's 2A charger, not this one. Larger group 22NF and group 24 scooters often take 5A or 8A. Pair the charger with the cell you actually run, such as the DCM0012 12Ah only when the scooter maker also lists 3.5A, which those Go-Go packs do not.

24V 3.5A XLR charger specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU ALE1803400, described as UPG 24BC3500T-4 / 71699. The specification tab should name 24V, 3.5A, XLR 3-pin male, input 100-240 Vac 50-60 Hz, 7.32 x 2.85 x 1.92 in (186 x 72 x 49 mm), AGM/GEL switch, 12-35Ah battery range, UL 1012 / ISO 7176-14 on the UPG sheet. Power LED red = mains on. Charge LED red = bulk/absorption, green blinking = float, green steady = maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

What type of charger does my Pride scooter need?

Pride's charger table lists 3.5 amp off-board for Zero Turn 8, Zero Turn 10 (U-1), Revo 2.0, Victory 10.2 (U-1), and Victory 9 (U-1). Go-Go travel scooters take 2 amp. Victory 10.2 with 40Ah takes 5 amp. Match the amp Pride prints and the XLR socket on the scooter.

Does this charger fit a Pride Go-Go?

No. Pride lists Go-Go Ultra X, Sport, LX, Elite Traveller, and Elite Traveller 2 at 2 amp off-board. This charger is 3.5A.

Does this charger fit a Victory 10.2?

Yes when the Victory 10.2 has the U-1 pack. Pride lists 5 amp for the 40Ah pack on that scooter. Confirm the pack and the XLR socket.

What plug does this charger use?

The UPG 71699 sheet prints a 1.8 m lead with an XLR 3-pin male connector. If the scooter socket is a different pin, this is the wrong charger.

Can I leave it plugged in?

The UPG sheet describes an automatic float stage and an auto-restart at 25.3V. Follow the Pride owner manual for how long to charge that scooter. Use the charger only while the scooter is parked.

Does it charge gel batteries?

The UPG sheet has a front AGM/GEL switch. Factory default is AGM. Move the switch to GEL only when the batteries are gel. Do not guess the chemistry.

How long do mobility scooter batteries take to charge?

Pride does not print a single hour count for every 3.5A scooter. Charge as that scooter's manual says, usually after a day's use, until the charger shows float. This UPG sheet does not print a minutes-to-full figure.
