This page is the Gel-T seat cushion only. Span places a segmented gel-filled bladder between two soft foam layers so the gel stays under the bony points that need it. The 2.5 inch height is a lower profile than the Geo-Matt PRT foam cushion. Span writes it for comfort, for prevention of breakdown, and for people at moderate risk of pressure injuries. If a clinician has named the Geo-Matt PRT, the Geo-Matt cushion, Geo-Matt Contour, Geo-Matt Wedge, Geo-Wave, or The Equalizer, ask us for that product. Those are separate Span articles.
Who this cushion is for
This cushion is for a wheelchair or geri-chair user who needs a wipeable, non-powered gel-and-foam seat and whose weight is within Span's rating for the size you pick. Span writes it for people at moderate risk of pressure injuries who want immersion from gel without a pump.
Families and therapists usually call us when the person already uses a wheelchair or a geri-chair and the seating plan asks for Gel-T, not a foam Geo-Matt and not a mattress pad. If the care team has asked for an in-bed Span surface, we already stock PressureGuard Custom Care and Span-Care mattresses and will quote those separately.

Construction and how it works
The Gel-T is a non-powered seat cushion. Span cradles a segmented gel-filled bladder between two soft foam layers. The segments hold the gel under the bony points instead of letting it slide away. The foam on top and bottom gives a conforming surface and keeps the bladder in place. Span writes that this stack maximises immersion and reduces pressure and pain.
The cover is wipe-clean vinyl with a non-skid bottom. It keeps moisture out and helps reduce shear and friction. The cover can take Span's optional Sling-Fill base when the chair has a fabric sling seat. That insert is sold separately. It fills the hammock in a fabric sling and gives the cushion a flat, rigid foundation.

Span lists a 2.5 inch height. Weight limit is 250 lb on sizes through 18 by 16 inches, 350 lb on 18 by 18 inches and larger, and 500 lb on the 22 and 24 inch bariatric sizes. The cushion is non-powered. Span lists an 18-month warranty. Fire-barrier versions are ordered by changing the -05 suffix to -29.

Which wheelchairs this cushion fits
Span publishes the Gel-T in wheelchair and geri-chair seat widths of 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 24 inches. Choose the width that matches the seat sling or seat pan. Span does not name a wheelchair brand or model. Tell us the measured seat width and depth and we will lock the matching code.
For a typical adult wheelchair, start with 18 by 16 inches (801816-05) or 16 by 16 inches (8016-05). Use 16 by 18 inches (801618-05) when the seat is 16 inches wide and 18 inches deep. Span prints 19 by 19 inches (8019-05), 20 by 18 inches (802018-05), and 21 by 21 inches (8021-05) as sizes that fit geri-chairs. The 22 by 18 and 24 by 18 inch sizes are the bariatric pair.
The cover can take Span's molded Sling-Fill base. Span writes that the insert fills the gap created by a fabric sling and creates a flat, rigid foundation. The insert is one size and is not included with the cushion. Ask us to add Sling-Fill (2SFB) to the quote when the chair has a hammocked sling seat.

What is the Gel-T?

Is this a mattress overlay?
No. The Gel-T is a seat cushion for a wheelchair or a geri-chair. If the clinician named a Span mattress or overlay, ask us for that product.
How is Gel-T different from the Geo-Matt PRT?
Gel-T is gel and foam at 2.5 inches. Geo-Matt PRT is high-density segmented foam at 3 inches (4 inches on bariatric sizes). They do not share part numbers. Ask us for PRT if the seating plan named foam, not gel.
How is Gel-T different from The Equalizer and Geo-Wave?
The Equalizer is a taller multi-layer seating cushion with positioning features. Geo-Wave is a long wave-foam cushion built for a geri-chair seat and back. Gel-T is the lower, flat gel-and-foam seat. This page sells Gel-T only.
Does this cushion need a pump?
No. The Gel-T is non-powered gel and foam. There is no pump to plug in.

Span prints 19 by 19, 20 by 18, and 21 by 21 inches as sizes that fit geri-chairs. Measure the geri-chair seat before you pick. Geo-Wave is a different Span article if the plan named a long wave cushion instead.
Can I add a Sling-Fill base?
Yes. The cover can take Span's molded Sling-Fill insert (2SFB). Span sells the insert separately. Ask us to add it when the wheelchair seat is a fabric sling that hammocks.
How do I clean the cover?
Span specifies a wipe-clean vinyl cover with a non-skid bottom. Wipe it with the disinfectant your clinician allows.
What is the warranty?
