SYSTEMROMEDIC EASYBELT SUPPORT AND TRANSFER BELT

The SystemRoMedic EasyBelt is a support and transfer belt. It goes around the waist of a person who is on their feet, or about to be, and gives the caregiver a set of solid handles to steady them through a sit-to-stand, a move from the wheelchair to the bed, toilet or car, or a short walk. What an EasyBelt is for, and what it is not for

This is a support belt. It is for a person who can take at least some weight through their legs and needs a caregiver to steady and guide them. In the SystemRoMedic range that is the Support category: aids for mobility support during sit-to-stand or gait training.

It is not a lifting device. Direct Healthcare Group states plainly in the instructions for use that EasyBelt is not to be used as an assistive device for lifting. There are no lift loops on this belt and it must never be attached to a hoist or used to take a person's full weight off the floor. If the person cannot weight-bear, the right products are a sit to stand lift or a patient lift with a proper sling.

It is also not a sliding aid. If the person is lying down and being moved from one surface to another, that is a lateral transfer and it needs a slide board or slide sheet, not a belt. Putting a walking belt on somebody for a lying-down transfer, or trying to steady somebody on their feet with a slide sheet, is how injuries happen.

Choosing your size

EasyBelt is fitted to a waist measurement, not to body weight. Measure the person around the waist, where the belt will actually sit, and read the size off the table below. The belt is applied below the waist, then fastened and tightened.

Two things to notice. The sizes overlap, so a waist near a boundary can take either belt; where that happens, the smaller size gives a firmer grip and the larger gives more adjustment. And the classic line stops at L: a waist above 1600 mm can only be fitted on the hug XL, article 6006. If you are between sizes or fitting somebody at the top of the range, call us with the measurement and we will confirm the article before you order.

Classic or hug: which handle design

Both designs fit identically size for size. They differ in what the handles do.

• Classic EasyBelt has fixed handles, vertical and horizontal, spaced right around the belt. The caregiver gets a firm grip from whichever angle they are standing, and the handle stays exactly where it is put. Available XS to L.
• EasyBelt hug uses a patented design where the horizontal handles slide freely in loops. As the caregiver pulls, the belt hugs onto the person rather than riding up their body. Direct Healthcare Group describes it as giving more support without more effort. Available XS to XL.

The practical rule: if the belt riding up has been a problem, or the person has little to grip below the ribs, look at the hug. If you want a predictable fixed handle in a known position, the classic is the simpler tool.

EasyBelt or FlexiBelt

EasyBelt and FlexiBelt are the same belt with a different inner face, in the same sizes, with the same safe working load. The choice is entirely about the material against the person.

• EasyBelt has an anti-slip inner of PU-coated nylon. It is moisture repellent, so it suits bathrooms, shower rooms and settings with special hygiene requirements, and the nylon lining makes it easy to launder or wipe clean with disinfectant.
• FlexiBelt has a soft polyester velvet inner that feels more comfortable against the skin, for a person who wears the belt for longer or has sensitive skin.

Both materials are anti-slip. If the belt is going anywhere near water, choose EasyBelt.

Every figure below is confirmed for the article numbers on this page. The safe working load is a single figure across the whole range and does not change with size.

How it is used

Apply the belt around the person, below the waist, then fasten it and tighten it. To remove it, release the clasp, loosening any straps first.

Coming up from sitting to standing, the caregiver can work from the side or from the front. Working in front tends to give the person a more secure feeling about standing. Lean them forward first so the movement follows a natural pattern, and work in towards their body with the belt. With two caregivers, one stands on each side, taking the cross-grips at the back while holding the person's hand at the front. A single caregiver can work alone where the person's needs allow it, because the belt carries handles both vertically and horizontally.

Before every use, apply pressure to the buckle and the handles and check that they will not open or break under load. Check the seams and the fabric regularly and always after laundering. If the fabric is worn or faded, or a seam is damaged, take the belt out of service.

Accessory: SupportStraps

SupportStraps, article 6061, supplied as a pair, can be used as a leg harness in combination with EasyBelt. That stops the belt riding up on a person who has little to hold it in place, and it is the manufacturer's own answer to that problem. Ask us to add a pair to your order.

Cleaning and laundering

The nylon lining is the reason this belt suits damp rooms: it can be laundered or simply wiped clean with disinfectant between people.

• Do not use rinse aid or fabric softener.
• Avoid tumble drying for the best service life.
• Read the label on your own belt before the first wash.
• Inspect the belt every time it comes back from the laundry.

Direct Healthcare Group publishes one care standard across its SystemRoMedic textile manual aids: wash in 60 to 80 C (140 to 176 F) water and tumble dry at low temperature, where low means 45 to 50 C (104 to 120 F). Where disinfection is called for, the same guidance names 70 per cent ethanol or 45 per cent isopropanol. If a single-use belt is what your infection control policy actually calls for, look at the SystemRoMedic DisposableBelt instead.

What size EasyBelt do I need?

Measure the person's waist where the belt will sit and match it to the table above. As a shortcut: XS covers 450 to 700 mm, S covers 600 to 1000 mm, M covers 700 to 1200 mm, L covers 1000 to 1600 mm, and the hug XL covers 1150 to 1750 mm. The sizes overlap on purpose. Call us with the measurement if you are on a boundary.

How much weight can an EasyBelt take?

The safe working load is 170 kg (375 lb), and it is the same on every article on this page regardless of size. That figure applies to the belt used as support. It is not a lifting capacity.

Can I lift somebody with an EasyBelt?

No. Direct Healthcare Group states that EasyBelt is not to be used as an assistive device for lifting. The belt steadies and guides a person who is taking weight through their own legs. If the person cannot weight-bear, you need a sit to stand lift or a patient lift with a sling, not a belt.

What is the difference between EasyBelt and FlexiBelt?
