Description
The Med Aire 14027 is Drive Medical's 8-inch alternating-pressure and low-air-loss replacement mattress. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is the analog 8-inch system in the Med Aire line, below the digital Med Aire Plus 14029.
Drive lists a 350 lb weight capacity and a 36-inch by 80-inch by 8-inch surface. The 14027P control unit moves 8 litres per minute on a 10-minute cycle and can also hold a static surface. Pressure on the owner manual is 40 to 90 mmHg.
Who this mattress is for
This mattress is for a person on a standard 36-inch hospital bed who needs a full air replacement, not an overlay. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital and a therapist has asked for alternating pressure and low air loss. Drive designed the 14027 to prevent, treat and heal pressure ulcers in the home or long-term care setting. The clinician who knows the person's skin still decides if this class is right.
If you only need a topper on a mattress you already have, start with the Med Aire 5 overlay. If you want selectable cycle times, Auto-Firm, and a 450 lb rating, step up to the Med Aire Plus 14029. If the person is near 350 lbs, do not stretch this surface.
- Home care on a 36-inch by 80-inch full-electric bed
- A therapist request for an 8-inch air replacement with a simple analog pump
- Anyone within Drive's 350 lb rating who needs a 10-minute cycle and a static mode for transfers
Construction and how it works
This is a mattress replacement. Twenty 8-inch Nylon/PVC cells sit on the bed deck. Alternating pressure inflates and deflates cells on a 10-minute cycle so the load on the skin moves. Low air loss vents a little air to help with moisture. Head-end cells stay more static (pillow feature).
The 14027P analog unit hangs on the footboard. You set comfort by weight on the dial. It alarms with a light and a sound if pressure is low. There is no cell-on-cell chamber and no foam base, so the surface goes soft if the power stays off. Cells unplug and can be replaced with air-leakage plugs. The nylon stretch cover is removable, fluid-resistant, low-shear, and vapour-permeable. A CPR valve dumps the air. Tubing uses EZ Lock / Quick Release.
Med Aire 14027 specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU 14027. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet lists 36 inches by 80 inches by 8 inches, a 350 lb capacity, a compressor control unit, a 10-minute cycle, and visual plus audible alarms. The owner manual for 14027P adds 8 litres per minute and a 40 to 90 mmHg pressure range. The control unit itself weighs 5.7 lbs on that manual.
Warranty for the original purchaser is 12 months on the control unit and mattress.
Size and what is included
This listing is one size: 36 inches by 80 inches by 8 inches. There is no size picker. You get the 20-cell mattress and the 14027P analog control unit. Drive's 84-inch length in this family is on the Plus 14029-84, not on 14027. A mattress-only spare is 14027M. The 14427QF quick-fill pump is a separate accessory.
Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), hardship funding programs, and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this mattress across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, place it on the bed, connect the control unit, and show you the pump before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a mattress first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased mattresses are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital-bed mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the mattress is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When the pump or a cell needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Drive manufacturer warranty
Drive's 14027 owner manual covers the original purchaser for 12 months on the control unit and mattress. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
How is the 14027 different from the Med Aire Plus 14029?
Both are 8-inch replacements with alternating pressure and low air loss. The 14027 is analog, 8 LPM, one 10-minute cycle, 350 lbs, and 12 months. The Plus 14029 is digital, still 8 LPM, four cycle times, 450 lbs, cell-on-cell outage hold, Auto-Firm and Seat Inflate, and 18 months.
Is this an overlay or a replacement?
A replacement. The existing mattress comes off. If you want to keep the current mattress, use the Med Aire 5 overlay.
How do I clean the cover?
The nylon stretch cover is removable, fluid-resistant, and vapour-permeable. Follow Drive's user manual for wipe-down. Do not immerse the control unit. A spare cover can be ordered if the zipper or fabric is worn.
What is the weight rating?
Drive lists 350 lbs for 14027. Near that limit, move to the Med Aire Plus 14029 (450 lbs) or a bariatric Plus width.
What size bed does it fit?
36 inches by 80 inches. It is not made in 84 inches. The 84-inch Med Aire in this family is 14029-84 on the Plus listing.
How loud is the pump?
Drive does not print a decibel rating on the current 14027 sheet. The analog unit hangs on the footboard. If you need a printed 45 dB figure, that is on the PreserveTech Med-Aire Edge.
What is the warranty?
12 months on the control unit and mattress for the original purchaser. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
Does funding cover this mattress in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with a therapeutic support surface. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Can I rent a powered mattress before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents hospital-bed packages that include a therapeutic mattress. See current packages on the hospital bed rentals page. Ask us whether this 14027 system can be added to a rental.
What happens if the power goes out?
The 14027 has no foam base and no cell-on-cell chamber. The cells go soft when the pump stops. If you need hold-up in an outage, look at the Med Aire Assure (foam base) or a Med Aire Plus (cell-on-cell).
