Description
The Drive Full Body Toileting Sling Large is Drive item 13221L, a mesh full-body sling with a commode opening and sewn loop straps. Westin Healthcare sells it in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area for Drive floor lifts. Drive's current shop sheet prints a 600 lb (272 kg) family capacity. Medium and Extra Large in the same commode line are 13221M and 13221XL.
A sling in the wrong size or on the wrong lift can drop a person. Confirm the size and the lift with a clinician or our staff before the first use. Use Choose Sling Size to pick Medium, Large, or Extra Large.
Who this sling is for
This toileting sling is for a person who needs a full-body transfer on a Drive floor lift, including toileting or hygiene work that uses the commode opening. It supports the head, neck, back, and legs down to the knee. It is not a sit-to-stand sling. It is not a Hoyer clip sling. It is not a bath lift and it is not a transfer bench.
- Transfers from bed to chair, chair to commode, or the floor, when a clinician has named a full-body mesh sling
- Toileting without a second transfer off the sling, using the commode cutout
- Anyone whose Drive lift manual says to use a Drive DeVilbiss sling
If the person can bear most of their own weight, look at the Drive sit-to-stand sling instead. If you need a divided-leg opening without a full mesh sheet, see the Drive 13262 divided-leg sling.
Sizing
Drive does not print a pounds-per-size table on the 13221 shop sheet. Drive's sling selection guide is a weight and height chart for Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large. Use it only as a guide. Confirm the size with a clinician or our staff before the first use.
| Drive size | SKU | Catalog length x width |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | 13221M | 53 in x 42 in (135 cm x 107 cm) |
| Large | 13221L | 58 in x 45 in (147 cm x 114 cm) |
| Extra Large | 13221XL | 60 in x 44 in (152 cm x 112 cm) |
All three commode sizes share the 600 lb family capacity. The working load of the lift still wins if it is lower. Drive's current sheet tags 13221M, 13221L, and 13221XL as mesh with a commode opening. Drive item 13221XXL is a different cut and is not tagged With Commode. Do not treat 13221XXL as a toileting size.
Attachment and compatible lifts
This is a loop sling. The straps are sewn loops. It is not a clip or Securi3 sling. Drive Levantar and Gravis lifts use a six-point cradle with spring clips that catch those loops. That clip is on the lift bar, not on the sling.
Drive's Levantar, Gravis, and 13244 manuals say to use Drive DeVilbiss slings only. Joerns says Hoyer slings and lifters are not interchangeable with other makers. Do not hang this sling on a Hoyer Advance.
Westin lifts this loop sling is sold to match:
- Drive Gravis (manual base) or Drive Gravis (power base), 600 lb, six-point Drive cradle
- Drive 13244 bariatric lift, 600 lb, four-point Drive cradle
- Drive Levantar, 500 lb (the lift limit is 500 lb even though the sling is 600 lb)
More Drive loop slings live in full-body slings and toileting slings.
Drive 13221L specifications
These figures are for the Drive 13221 mesh-with-commode family. The specification tab holds the stored values. This card is parented on Large, 13221L.
Drive's current shop sheet prints polyester mesh, 600 lb (272 kg), and the three commode SKUs above. Catalog reprints used by Drive dealers print about 2 lb (0.9 kg), blue, and 4 sling points that hang on a 4-point or 6-point Drive cradle. A separate chain or strap set is not required. Drive 13232 straps are a different product.
Care and laundering
Inspect the mesh, seams, and loops before every lift. Do not use the sling if anything is frayed, bleached out, or torn. Drive's 2016 owners manual for this family prints machine wash warm or cold, maximum 105 F (40.5 C), air dry or tumble dry cool or very low, non-enzyme detergent, no bleach. Follow the care label sewn on the sling if it is stricter. Replace the sling when the label is unreadable or the fabric is worn.
Bath lift chair or transfer bench
A bath lift chair for elderly use sits in a home tub and raises and lowers on a battery. A transfer bench bridges the tub wall. This Drive 13221 toileting sling does neither job. It hangs on a Drive floor lift so a person can be moved to a commode or a shower chair.
For a powered seat in the tub, see the Bellavita Auto Bath Lifter. For a slide-in bench, see the Drive Combination Transfer Bench and Commode.
