Description
The Drive clamp-on tub rail, item 12036, is Drive's fixed-height steel rail that clamps onto the tub wall. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and can fit it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Drive prints a 300 lb (136 kg) rating, a 14.5 in (36.8 cm) handle height, and a clamp that opens from 3 to 7 in (7.6 to 17.8 cm).
This is the non-adjustable Drive clamp-on. The height-adjustable sibling is item RTL12036-ADJ. It is not a wall grab bar and it is not the plastic 12044 rail.
Who this rail is for
The Drive 12036 clamp-on tub rail is for a person who wants a handhold on the tub wall without drilling, whose tub wall measures between 3 and 7 in, and who stays at or under Drive's 300 lb rating. Families here usually call when they want a steel rail they can take off later, and they already know a wall grab bar is a different job.
Drive prints that the rail fits most tubs and that you should tighten carefully on fiberglass. That is the whole fiberglass sentence. Come into a Brampton store if you want the clamp checked on your tub wall first.
- Fixed 14.5 in (36.8 cm) handle, parallel to the tub
- Clamp 3 to 7 in (7.6 to 17.8 cm) on the tub wall
- 300 lb (136 kg) white powder-coated steel, tool-free
Clamp fit and tub-wall thickness
Drive's clamp on 12036 opens from 3 to 7 in (7.6 to 17.8 cm). Measure the thickness of the tub wall at the spot you will clamp. If that number sits inside 3 to 7 in, Drive's clamp can cover it. If the wall is thinner than 3 in or thicker than 7 in, this rail is the wrong tool.
Installation is tool-free. Drive uses a stainless steel locking mechanism and non-wearing rubber pads that it calls scratch-proof. Clean and dry the tub wall, open the clamp, seat the pads, and tighten until the rail does not shift. Drive's fiberglass line is one sentence: tighten carefully when using with fiberglass tubs.
Retighten after the first few baths. A clamp-on rail is only as firm as the last time someone checked the lock.
Height, grip, and build
Drive sets 12036 at 14.5 in (36.8 cm). That height does not move. The handle sits parallel to the tub. The frame is white powder-coated steel. Drive prints a unit weight of 7.0 lb (3.2 kg).
If you want the same clamp and a handle that moves between 14.5 and 17 in, that is RTL12036-ADJ. If you want a lighter plastic rail with the handle standing perpendicular to the tub, that is the Drive Plastic Tub Rail (12044), which clamps 3 to 6.25 in.

Fixed Drive rail or adjustable Drive rail
Item 12036 is the fixed 14.5 in Drive clamp-on. RTL12036-ADJ is the same white steel family with a 14.5 to 17 in handle. Both clamp 3 to 7 in and both rate 300 lb. The Drive Plastic Tub Rail is the recycled plastic sibling at 16.5 in with a 3 to 6.25 in clamp. A wall grab bar, such as the AquaSense rotating-flange bar, needs the wall and the carton hardware instead of a tub clamp.
There is no floor-to-tub rail on our bath-tub-rails shelf today. The other clamp-on on that shelf is the AquaSense Multi-Adjust Bath Safety Rail (785-340).
Funding help for bathroom safety equipment in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund bathroom safety equipment, so plan around other routes.
