Description

The Drive junior folding walker is Drive Medical's 10247 two-button steel walker with 5 inch front wheels. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is the extra-short steel junior in this family, not the deluxe aluminum junior 10211.

Drive lists an 8 lb (3.6 kg) frame, a 159 kg (350 lb) weight capacity, a 24 inch (61 cm) overall width, and a handle range of 21 to 32 inches (53 to 81 cm). Front wheels are included. Drive's product line on the sheet is "Walker, Steel, Junior 2Button 5 inch Whs".

Who this walker is for

This folding junior walker is for a shorter adult or a youth who needs a two-button walker with 5 inch wheels and a handle range that starts at 21 inches. Families usually call us when deluxe junior 25 to 32.25 inches still sits too high, or when a standard adult 32 inch starting height is clearly too tall.

If 25 to 32.25 inches on deluxe aluminum is enough, use Junior on the Drive Deluxe Folding Walker 10210 (that junior is Drive 10211). If you need adult height on steel, see the Drive Steel Folding Walker 10244 at 32.5 to 41.5 inches. This 10247 is not a paediatric gait trainer and it is not a rollator.

  • Steel junior two-button frame, 21 to 32 inches
  • 5 inch front wheels and rear glide caps
  • 159 kg (350 lb) Drive rating on an 8 lb (3.6 kg) walker

Fit and height

Drive prints 21 to 32 inches (53 to 81 cm) for 10247. That is the extra-short junior range. Deluxe junior 10211 is 25 to 32.25 inches on aluminum. Adult deluxe 10210 is 32 to 39 inches. Adult steel 10244 is 32.5 to 41.5 inches. Those four heights are not interchangeable.

To choose a walker height, stand in everyday shoes with arms relaxed. The grips should sit at the wrist crease. If the wrist crease sits above 32 inches, this junior frame is too short. Drive rates 10247 at 350 lb, the same as the adult steel walker, so height is the reason to pick it, not a lower weight rating.

Wheels, brakes, and folding

Two 5 inch (13 cm) front wheels and rear glide caps move the frame. There are no loop hand brakes. You slow the walker by putting weight through the rear legs. Each side has its own push button so one side can close for a doorway.

The tube is 1 inch steel, same story as adult 10244, on a shorter frame. Vinyl-contoured grips are the Drive junior spec.

Weight and portability

Drive lists 8 lb (3.6 kg) and 24 inches (61 cm) wide. That matches the adult steel 10244 on weight and is a little wider (10244 is 22.5 inches). Drive does not print a folded width. The two-button fold is the same action as the rest of this family and will go in a car trunk.

Drive Folding Junior Walker specifications

These figures are for Drive 10247-4, the steel junior two-button walker with 5 inch wheels. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet lists handle height 21 to 32 inches, a 159 kg (350 lb) capacity, a 24 inch overall width, an 8 lb unit weight, and a 32 lb carton.

Do not mix these numbers with deluxe junior 10211 (aluminum, 25 to 32.25 inches, 7 lb). Do not mix them with adult steel 10244 (32.5 to 41.5 inches, 22.5 inches wide).

Warranty for the original purchaser is Drive's Limited Lifetime term: defects in materials and workmanship for the life of that purchaser. It does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to rubber accessories, casters, and grips.

Junior steel or deluxe junior

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 is extra-short steel at 21 to 32 inches. Deluxe junior 10211 on the 10210 page is aluminum at 25 to 32.25 inches. Pick 10247 when the handle must start at 21 inches. Pick 10211 when deluxe aluminum at 25 inches is already low enough.

Funding help for a walker or rollator in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a walker or rollator when the need is long-term and the aid is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every model qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Service and warranty

When something on the walker needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Drive manufacturer warranty

Drive's sheet for 10247 prints a Limited Lifetime term for the original purchaser: free of defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of that purchaser. The warranty does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to non-durable parts such as rubber accessories, casters, and grips. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What Is the Difference Between a Walker and a Rollator?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 is a two-wheel walker with 5 inch front wheels and rear glide caps. A rollator has three or four wheels, hand brakes, and usually a seat. Choose this walker when a shorter person needs to put weight through the frame.

How Do I Choose a Walker Height?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 adjusts from 21 to 32 inches (53 to 81 cm). Stand in everyday shoes, relax the arms, and set the grips at the wrist crease. If the crease sits above 32 inches, this junior frame is too short.

Adult or Junior: Which Walker Size Do I Need?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 is the extra-short steel junior at 21 to 32 inches. Deluxe aluminum junior 10211 is 25 to 32.25 inches. Adult deluxe 10210 is 32 to 39 inches. Adult steel 10244 is 32.5 to 41.5 inches. Measure the wrist crease and pick the range that contains it.

How Do Rear Glide Caps Work on a Wheeled Walker?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 rolls on 5 inch front wheels and slides the rear legs on Drive's glide caps. You do not lift all four legs the way you lift a walker with rubber tips.

Will This Walker Fold Into a Car Trunk?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 folds at the two side buttons. Drive lists 8 lb (3.6 kg) and does not print a folded width. We can show you the fold at delivery. It is not approved as a seat inside a moving vehicle.

What Is the Weight Capacity of This Walker?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 is rated 159 kg (350 lb) on Drive's current sheet, the same rating as the adult steel 10244. The junior label is about height, not a lower capacity.

Is This a 2-Wheel Walker or a Rollator?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 is a 2-wheel walker. It is not a rollator. It has no hand brakes and no seat.

What Is the Warranty on This Drive Walker?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 carries Drive's Limited Lifetime term for the original purchaser. Wear items such as casters, grips, and rubber accessories sit outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

Can Funding Help With a Walker in Ontario?

Some Ontario routes can help with mobility equipment. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.

Does This Walker Have a Seat?

The Drive folding junior walker 10247 does not have a seat. For a Drive 2-wheel walker with a padded seat, see the Drive Two Wheeled Walker with Seat.
