Description
The Drive steel folding walker is Drive Medical's 10244 two-button adult walker with 5 inch front wheels. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is not the deluxe aluminum 10210. It is the taller steel walker in this family.
Drive lists an 8 lb (3.6 kg) frame, a 159 kg (350 lb) weight capacity, a 22.5 inch (57 cm) overall width, and a handle range of 32.5 to 41.5 inches (82.5 to 105.5 cm). Front wheels are 5 inch. Drive's product line on the sheet is "Walker, Steel, Adult 2Button 5inWhls".
Who this walker is for
This walker is for an adult who needs a folding walker with 5 inch wheels and a taller handle range than Drive's deluxe 32 to 39 inch aluminum frame. Families usually call us when the person is long in the arm or wants a steel 1 inch frame, and a rollator still feels like more than they need.
If you want the lighter deluxe aluminum walker at 32 to 39 inches, start with the Drive Deluxe Folding Walker 10210. If you need the extra-short steel junior at 21 to 32 inches, see the Drive Folding Junior Walker 10247. This 10244 is adult only.
- Steel adult two-button frame with 5 inch front wheels
- Handle height 32.5 to 41.5 inches (82.5 to 105.5 cm)
- 159 kg (350 lb) Drive rating on an 8 lb (3.6 kg) walker
Fit and height
Drive prints 32.5 to 41.5 inches (82.5 to 105.5 cm) for 10244. That is taller than deluxe adult 10210 at 32 to 39 inches. There is no junior SKU on the 10244 card.
To choose a walker height, stand in everyday shoes with arms relaxed. The grips should sit at the wrist crease. If the wrist crease sits below 32.5 inches, this steel adult frame is the wrong height. Look at the deluxe junior or the extra-short 10247 instead.
Wheels, brakes, and folding
Two 5 inch (13 cm) front wheels and rear glide caps move the frame. Drive names item 10109 as the replacement wheel set. There are no loop hand brakes. You slow the walker by putting weight through the rear legs.
Each side has its own push button. Drive says you can close one side to pass a doorway and keep the other side open while you stand. The frame is 1 inch steel, not the deluxe aluminum tube.
Weight and portability
Drive lists 8 lb (3.6 kg) and 22.5 inches (57 cm) wide. That is a little heavier and a little narrower than deluxe 10210 at 7.5 lb and 24 inches. Drive does not print a folded width. The two-button fold is the same family action: close the sides and lift it into a car trunk.
Drive Steel Folding Walker specifications
These figures are for Drive 10244-4, the steel adult two-button walker with 5 inch wheels. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet lists handle height 32.5 to 41.5 inches, a 159 kg (350 lb) capacity, a 22.5 inch overall width, an 8 lb unit weight, 5 inch wheels, and a 36.79 lb carton.
Do not mix these numbers with the deluxe aluminum 10210. That walker is 7.5 lb, 24 inches wide, and 32 to 39 inches tall. They are separate Drive SKUs, not two names for one walker.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Drive's Limited Lifetime term: defects in materials and workmanship for the life of that purchaser. It does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to rubber accessories, casters, and grips.
Steel walker or deluxe aluminum walker
The Drive steel folding walker 10244 is the taller, steel, 22.5 inch choice. The Drive deluxe 10210 is aluminum, 7.5 lb, 24 inches wide, and 32 to 39 inches. The Drive 10200 is the same deluxe family with no wheels. Pick steel 10244 when the extra handle height is the fit. Pick deluxe 10210 when you want the lighter aluminum wheeled frame.
Funding help for a walker or rollator in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a walker or rollator when the need is long-term and the aid is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every model qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
