What is ODSP?
The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) provides financial assistance to Ontario residents with disabilities. In addition to monthly income support, ODSP can help cover the cost of certain medical equipment not covered by other programs.
ODSP vs ADP: Understanding the Difference
Many people confuse ODSP with ADP. Here is how they differ:
- ADP (Assistive Devices Program) – Covers 75% of specific mobility equipment for all eligible Ontarians
- ODSP – Provides income support AND can cover the remaining 25% after ADP
If you receive ODSP, you may be eligible for BOTH programs, potentially covering 100% of your equipment costs.
Equipment ODSP May Cover
- Co-payment for ADP-funded equipment
- Wheelchairs and mobility devices
- Medical supplies and equipment
- Hearing aids and batteries
- Diabetic supplies
- Orthotics and prosthetics
How to Access ODSP Equipment Benefits
- Confirm you are enrolled in ODSP
- Speak with your ODSP caseworker about equipment needs
- Get assessed by an ADP-authorized assessor
- Work with an ADP vendor (like Westin Healthcare)
- Submit required documentation for approval
